About this place The DC Center for the LGBT Community

This community center on Washington, DC's U Street corridor is a hub for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their allies.

It’s not a bar or a club, but a place that actually does things: health and wellness services, arts and cultural programming, social and support services, and advocacy work. If you're looking for a low-key, real way to connect with DC's LGBTQ+ community, this is it.

Washington, DC has a long, complicated LGBTQ+ history, and U Street is one of its central arteries. This center isn't about commercial entertainment; it’s about connection and support. You'll find it useful if you want to understand local LGBTQ+ initiatives, get health resources, or check out cultural events.

The vibe is welcoming, community-focused. It's easy to get to, and a great place to learn about advocacy or just meet people.

The Center advertised a career workshop for LGBT individuals focused on job search support, résumé and cover letter review. It sounded like a meaningful resource for the community. Instead, it was a complete failure in basic professionalism. My husband stood outside for 30 minutes only to be told the event was cancelled. There was no email, no phone call, no notice, no signage, and no apology. Nothing. If you are going to position yourself as a resource for vulnerable job seekers, the bare minimum is communication and accountability. Failing to notify attendees of a cancellation shows a complete disregard for people’s time and trust. Do not rely on this organization if you need dependable support. The lack of responsibility speaks volumes.
