本指南 · 4 章節

Read this first — this is not a travel guide

The Central African Republic is under Level 4 'Do Not Travel' advisories (reissued January 2026). Armed groups control large areas outside Bangui. Kidnapping is frequent. Embassy staff move in armored vehicles under curfew. Post-election tension persists. For any traveler, the conflict outranks every other consideration. We say that plainly, instead of writing itinerary copy over it.

The legal picture

Private, consensual same-sex relations are legal. But Article 85 criminalizes 'acts against nature committed in public', and it’s applied only to same-sex conduct. Public expression of affection between same-sex partners can mean six months to two years in prison. The local organization Alternatives Centrafrique has documented arbitrary arrests based on mere allegations. CAR did sign the UN's protective statement — one of the few African states to do so — and MSM and trans women are named in the national health plan. These are threads of official recognition inside a broken state.

Why there is no gay scene to list

There are no gay bars, clubs, saunas, cruising areas, Pride events, or LGBTQ+ organizations you can safely walk into anywhere in Bangui or the wider country. We document that absence honestly, with the war and Article 85 as the overriding reasons. The only venues below are general hotels, used by the aid, UN, and diplomatic personnel who are Bangui's essential foreign presence. None is a 'gay' venue, and the country's Level 4 security cautions apply to all of them.

If you must be here

Aid and diplomatic personnel are Bangui's only real foreign presence. Inside that reality: zero public expression (Art. 85 is the law), maximum discretion, and organizational security protocols above all. For everyone else — support Central Africans through international channels, and wait for a different year.

常見問題

Private, consensual same-sex relations are legal, but Article 85 of the penal code criminalizes public "acts against nature," enforced only against same-sex conduct — public expression of affection can bring six months to two years in prison plus fines. Same-sex marriage is constitutionally banned, and there are no anti-discrimination protections or legal gender recognition.

No. There are no dedicated LGBTQ+ bars, clubs, saunas or cruising venues anywhere in Bangui or the Central African Republic. The only documented group working on sexual-minority rights, Alternatives Centrafrique, is an advocacy and HIV organization, not a public venue you can visit.

The entire country is under a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory because of armed conflict, kidnapping and crime, and this outranks every other consideration. For LGBTQ+ people the law also penalizes visibility, so maximum discretion is essential. In practice the only foreign presence is aid, UN and diplomatic personnel operating under strict security protocols.

No. There is no Pride event in Bangui or anywhere in the Central African Republic, and no organization in a position to hold one publicly given the security situation and the law against public same-sex expression.
