The honest summary: Charlotte has no gay hotel or gay-owned B&B that we could confirm. You'll be choosing a mainstream hotel by location. Uptown and South End are the practical bases: the Blue Line connects them to the South Boulevard bars and the Scorpio, and Plaza Midwood and NoDa are a short rideshare away.
Where to stay
- Uptown has the most hotels and puts you on the Blue Line and the Gold Line streetcar. Pride happens here in August, around First Ward Park and North Tryon Street.
- South End and Dilworth put you nearest the Scorpio (Fairwood Ave), Bar Argon and Sidelines (South Blvd).
- Plaza Midwood and NoDa have Chasers, Petra's and White Rabbit, but few hotels. Most people stay Uptown and ride over.
- Kimpton Tryon Park (303 S Church St, Uptown) faces Romare Bearden Park. Passport magazine calls it the city's go-to gay-friendly hotel, and Kimpton has long-standing LGBTQ-inclusive policies.
- The Dunhill (237 N Tryon St) is a historic boutique hotel in the middle of Uptown, a few blocks from the Pride festival.
- The Ivey's Hotel (127 N Tryon St) is a small boutique hotel in the former Ivey's department store.
- JW Marriott (600 S College St), Omni (132 E Trade St), DoubleTree City Center (230 N College St), Hyatt Place Downtown (222 S Caldwell St) and Le Méridien (555 S McDowell St) are the big-brand Uptown options, all walkable to the Pride site.
- The Morehead Inn (1122 E Morehead St, Dilworth) is a B&B in a historic house, between Uptown and South End.
- Kasa Dilworth, Kasa Edison House (South End) and Kasa FreeMoreWest are app-run apartment hotels with self check-in. Edison House is the closest to the South End bars.
- Sonesta Lower South End (5700 Westpark Dr) is a large hotel south of the bars, cheaper than Uptown and a short drive to Argon and Sidelines.
- Budget options near the highways: Days Inn Woodlawn (Google reviews are poor) and Studios & Suites 4 Less Airport. We'd only pick these on price.
- Book early for Charlotte Pride weekend in mid-August, and for home football games at the Uptown stadium, when rates jump.
- You'll need a car or rideshare for the Woodshed (near the airport) and the two saunas, wherever you stay.
- Same-sex couples sharing a room shouldn't have any issue at mainstream hotels. Charlotte's 2021 non-discrimination ordinance covers public accommodations, including hotels.
