Gay Hotels in Maspalomas & Playa del Inglés: Men-Only Resorts, the Yumbo Walk and What Changed in 2026 — The Honest Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Walking times come from our venue coordinates (straight-line with a 30% street allowance, 80 m per minute) and were then corrected against the real street grid — Playa del Inglés is a town of walled resort compounds, so the far end of the bungalow belt takes longer than any map suggests. Prices are indicative off-peak rates; Pride and winter weeks run higher.
The honest summary: Playa del Inglés has more gay men-only hotels than any other place in Europe — fourteen open in 2026, from a cruise resort with a darkroom opposite the Yumbo to clothing-optional bungalow gardens 25 minutes away. The catch is geography: the Yumbo Centrum, where every gay bar sits, is on the east side of town; most men-only complexes are in the "bungalow belt" to the west and south, on dark, quiet avenues. So the real choice is men-only with a walk (or a €6 taxi) versus a mixed hotel with the Yumbo at the door — and two famous names changed their rules this year.
Pick by the kind of trip
| Traveller profile | Hotels | Distance from the Yumbo | Why | Take into account |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero metres from the nightlife (party / prime location) | Basement Studios (men-only), Aqua Beach (men-only), Hotel Nayra (mixed) | 1–3 min walk | Fall out of the bar into bed; no taxis ever; Basement has the cruise facilities in-house | Yumbo noise until 04:00 (06:00 at weekends); Nayra is mixed adults-only and bans nudity at the pool since its 2025–26 rebrand |
| Quality and close, without the noise (boutique & walkable) | Fahana Men Only, Bungalows Tenesoya | 4–6 min walk | Silent at night but a short, lit walk; personal service at Fahana (4.9 on Google) | Very few rooms — book months ahead |
| Classic bungalow-belt life (community, pool, play areas) | Club Torso, Mar Bianco | 12–15 min walk (Kuoni avenues) | Social clothing-optional pools; "Basement" lounge and spa at Torso; modern upscale apartments at Mar Bianco | Dark, quiet streets at night — take a taxi back (€5–7) |
| Beach and dunes first | Seven Hotel & Wellness, AxelBeach | 10–12 min to the dunes path; 20–25 min to the Yumbo | Closest to the gay beach; the big pool parties (Axel); proper wellness (Seven) | Taxi-recommended at night; Axel's service gets mixed reviews |

The geography: Yumbo east, bungalows west, beach south
The Yumbo Centrum (Avenida de Estados Unidos 54 / Avenida de España) is the whole gay nightlife: forty-odd bars, cruise bars, shops and shows on its terraces, open until 02:00–04:00 (Mantrix and a few clubs to 05:00–06:00 at weekends). Three gay saunas sit within 400 m of it (Corpus and Enjoy on Avenida de Tirajana, Heroes off Avenida de Estados Unidos).
The men-only resorts cluster in two zones. The Yumbo rim — Basement Studios, Aqua Beach, Fahana, Villa Adler, Tenesoya, Atlantic Sun, Artemisa, The Vintage Club — is 2–12 minutes away on lit streets. The bungalow belt along Avenida Touroperador Kuoni, Tjaereborg, Matkatala and Finnmatkat (Club Torso, Mar Bianco, Villas Blancas, Birdcage, Rainbow Golf, Seven) is 1–1.3 km south-west as the crow flies — but the town's walled compounds force detours, so the far end is a real 20–25 minutes, uphill on the way home. Vista Bonita (2 km west) and Pasión Tropical (San Agustín, 3 km east) are taxi-only.
Where not to sleep (if the Yumbo is the point)
- Meloneras and the Faro: the five-star strip (Lopesan Baobab, Grand Hotel Residencia) is lovely and 1.5–2 km from both the gay beach and the Yumbo. Fine with taxis; wrong if you plan to stumble home.
- San Agustín: quiet, older, 3 km east. Pasión Tropical runs a free shuttle — without it you are on the number 30 bus.
- Puerto Rico / Amadores: a different resort 25 minutes by road. Winter Pride uses Amadores Beach Club for one event; don't base yourself there.
- The far belt on foot after midnight: Rainbow Golf, Seven, Birdcage and Vista Bonita are a 20–35 minute walk along unlit avenues. Treat them as taxi-recommended at night (€5–8) and walk by day.
- Men-only bungalow complexes mostly run a no-non-guests policy — not to charge a fee but to protect the privacy and nudity of the pool area. Villa Adler writes it down ("visits are not allowed"); Torso, Rainbow Golf, Villas Blancas, Tenesoya and Mar Bianco decide at reception, and the answer is usually no after hours. If you plan on company, choose a complex with a day pass (Basement ~€12; Axel €15 for 11:00–19:00 with pool, sauna and a drink; Seven on request) or a large mixed hotel.
- Mixed hotels (Nayra, Ritual, Gold, Servatur, IFA) follow normal Spanish practice: a registered guest can bring a visitor to a room booked for two; reception takes an ID. The tip that works everywhere: book the room for two guests from the start — the rate is almost always the same — and there is nothing to charge for.
- Bungalows Tenesoya, Av. de Tenerife 18. Men-only, clothing-optional, six minutes to the Yumbo and five to the Cita centre, usually the cheapest men-only bed in town. Rooms are plain; the pool and the price are the point.
- Basement Studios, Av. Estados Unidos 37. If the holiday is about sex, this is the honest choice: studios over a men-only cruise resort, opposite the Yumbo, nothing to walk. Not for a quiet week.
- Aqua Beach Bungalows, Av. Estados Unidos 43. Men-only bungalows directly across from the Yumbo — the prime location at bungalow prices. It has changed hands; confirm the current policy when you book.
- Fahana Men Only Hotel, Av. de Gran Canaria. 4.9 on Google from 240 reviews, unheard of here: small, spotless, four minutes to the Yumbo, next to Zoo Mens Bar and Sauna Corpus. A handful of rooms — book early.
- Club Torso, Av. Touroperador Kuoni 8. The archetype: bungalows around a clothing-optional pool and hot tub, a "Basement" play lounge, a bar where you'll know everyone by day two. The 12–15 minute walk back is the trade-off; taxis wait at the Yumbo rank.
- Hotel Nayra – Adults Only, Calle Irlanda 25. Mixed now, but if you want to fall out of the Yumbo and into bed in two minutes with a pool and hot tub, it is still the address. Ask for a room away from the Avenida side.
- Mar Bianco Luxury Apartments, Peatonal Kuoni. The best-built men-only option: large modern apartments, clothing-optional pool, adult quiet. Fifteen to twenty minutes' walk or a short taxi.
- Seven Hotel & Wellness, C. Touroperador Matkatala 2. The only men-only place that feels like a hotel rather than a bungalow park: wellness area, restaurant, T-dances in Pride and Winter Pride weeks, ten minutes from the dunes path. Taxi to the Yumbo at night.
- AxelBeach Maspalomas, Av. Touroperador Tui. Mixed adults-only, but it is where the big pool parties happen (Please Disturb, Wet & Hairy, Mad Bear) and it is on the dunes side. Book it for a party week; pick Mar Bianco for a quiet one.
- Getting there: two real routes. (1) From Playa del Inglés beach walk south along the waterline — flat, about 25 minutes. (2) Go to the Riu Palace Maspalomas mirador (the viewpoint at the top of the dunes, by the Annexo II centre) and take the marked path straight across the dunes down to Kiosko 7 — 15–20 minutes in soft sand. From the Yumbo it is 2.6 km either way; from Axel, Seven and Birdcage you are 10–12 minutes from the dunes path.
- Sunbeds: €3.5–4.5 per bed and the same per parasol, cash or card. In Pride week, Bear Carnival and the winter months they are gone by 11:00; bring a towel and expect sand.
- Supplies: the kiosk is expensive and basic. Buy water, snacks and sunscreen at the HiperDino or Spar by the Riu Palace before you go down — there is nothing else for 2 km.
- The dunes are a nature reserve, and 2026 enforcement is serious. Under the Cabildo's MasDunas programme, leaving the marked paths in the protected Zone A brings fines from €150 to €600 (more for environmental damage); patrols, drones and thermal cameras work the dunes, with loudspeaker warnings at sunset. The traditional cruising in the scrub behind Kiosko 7 still happens by day; going deep into the reserve at night is monitored and, in that terrain, unsafe. Stay on the paths.
- Maspalomas Pride ran 4–10 May 2026 (the 25th edition, trimmed to seven days). 2027 is pencilled as 3–9 May but not confirmed by the organiser, Asociación Freedom — the old gaypridemaspalomas.com domain is now parked, so check Freedom's socials. Pride week hits 100% occupancy around the Yumbo and prices roughly double; men-only resorts sell out months ahead, mixed hotels 6–8 weeks ahead. Pool parties in 2026 were at AxelBeach, Ocean Club and Seven, with Ritual running its own.
- Winter Pride is 2–8 November 2026 (confirmed on winterpride.com); Lopesan is the official hotel partner, with events at AxelBeach, Hotel Faro's rooftop, Amadores Beach Club, Ocean Club and Seven. 2025 brought a record 356,000 overnight stays — book by September.
- Fetish Pride is 1–12 October 2026 around the Yumbo and Club Kiki; 2027 dates are not yet official. For this week the belt resorts with play areas (Torso, Basement) are the natural base.
- Bear Carnival is 8–18 April 2027 (confirmed on bearcarnival.com); Wet & Hairy is at AxelBeach on 17 April and Ritual has been the pool venue since 2025.
- Winter in general (November–March) is the island's high season: Gran Canaria ran 85% occupancy early in 2026 and Playa del Inglés nightly rates sit two to three times the June level. Book winter weeks three months out.
- Airport at night: the direct Global bus 66 stops at 20:30. After that, night bus line 5 passes the airport hourly from 00:00 to 03:00 (plus evening runs 20:00–23:00) towards Playa del Inglés and the Faro for about €4. Taxis run 24 hours with night and holiday supplements: budget €45–60 for the 35-minute ride (the daytime meter is nearer €35).
- Uber barely exists in the south of the island. Use the official radio taxis — white cars with a blue stripe, strict meters — from the ranks outside the Yumbo all night, or order through the 1Taxi! or PideTaxi apps. €5–8 to any belt resort.
- Renting a car (Cicar and AutoReisen at the airport are the island's fair-priced locals) changes the calculation: the bungalow belt has free, plentiful street parking on its wide avenues, while around the Yumbo parking is near-impossible and much of it is blue-zone (Zona Azul) metered with time limits. Car + belt resort is a very comfortable combination; car + Yumbo-rim hotel is a daily headache.
- Noise: Nayra, Ritual, Basement, Aqua Beach and anything on Avenida de Estados Unidos hear the Yumbo until 04:00 (06:00 at weekends). The belt is silent — that is the trade.
- Closing times: Yumbo terrace and show bars 02:00–04:00; Mykonos and Tubos to about 03:30; Mantrix 02:00–06:00; Bunker to 05:00–06:00 at weekends.
- Prices: the Canaries sit outside the EU VAT area and charge the local 7% IGIC instead of mainland Spain's 21% IVA — drinks, meals, tobacco and rooms run noticeably cheaper than Madrid or Barcelona. The flip side: customs limits on tobacco and alcohol apply when you fly back into the EU (200 cigarettes, 1 litre of spirits per adult).
- Pickpockets at the Yumbo's west exits, 03:00–06:00. Small gangs work the stairways up to the main road and the taxi rank, targeting drunk tourists with fake hugs, offers of "help" or a sudden crowd. Go out with one card and the cash you need; leave the spare card, the watch and the passport in the safe.
- App dates: in March 2026 an 82-year-old German visitor was robbed and killed at his Playa del Inglés accommodation by a man he had met on Grindr. The exception, but the pattern to respect: valuables in the safe before anyone comes up; meet first at a Yumbo bar; let reception register the visitor.
- Terraces: older bungalow complexes have had break-ins through unlocked terrace doors — lock them when you sleep and when you are at the pool.
- Drugs and chemsex: Spain tolerates personal use at home but not in public, and resort management will evict for anything that makes the pool a problem. The resorts' play areas are not a licence.
- Medical: with a European Health Insurance Card you can use the public Centro de Salud de Maspalomas (Avenida de Gran Canaria) — expect hours of waiting. Everyone else, and anyone with standard travel insurance, will be sent to the private Hospiten Roca in San Agustín, seven minutes by taxi, which handles emergencies 24 hours and is where PEP is easiest to obtain within the 72-hour window. There is no walk-in gay clinic; bring your PrEP. Duty pharmacies (farmacias de guardia) in the Yumbo and on Avenida de Tirajana rotate 24/7 and sell lubricant, basic medicines and first-aid supplies without prescription.

Who is men-only in 2026 — and who stopped
The two best-known names are no longer men-only: Hotel Nayra – Adults Only (46 rooms, mixed clientele, no nudity at the pool) and Hotel Ritual (an adults-only gay party hotel open to everyone). Vista Bonita and Los Almendros are gay resorts for men and women; AxelBeach and Neptuno are mixed adults-only.

Names you may still see on old lists that are not gay hotels or not open: Vulcano, Respect / Los Robles (timeshare), Cay Beach Princess (family), DunaGolf, Bellevue, La Casa Tres. If a resort isn't in the table above, assume it is mixed and check.
Couples, visitors and the "joiner" question
Couples: never a problem anywhere in Playa del Inglés — this is the most gay-booked resort in Spain and double beds are the default. Spain has had marriage equality since 2005.
Bringing someone back is where the rules differ, and they differ for a reason:

Who is actually gay-owned here?
Most of the men-only complexes are small, owner-run businesses — Torso, Rainbow Golf, Villas Blancas, Tenesoya, Villa Adler, Mar Bianco, Fahana, Basement, Atlantic Sun, Artemisa, Birdcage, Pasión Tropical — and that is the charm: the person at the bar is often the person who owns it. Axel is a gay hotel brand run as a chain; Nayra and Ritual are mixed businesses that live off gay guests; Gold, Servatur, IFA and Lopesan are mainstream groups that are good at the welcome.

Frequently asked questions
Which men-only resorts can I walk to the Yumbo from?
Basement Studios, Aqua Beach and Fahana (2–5 minutes); Tenesoya, Villa Adler, Atlantic Sun, Artemisa and The Vintage Club (6–12 minutes); Club Torso and Villas Blancas (12–15). Mar Bianco is 15–20 minutes; Rainbow Golf, Seven and Birdcage are 20–25 and better by taxi at night.

Can I bring someone back to a men-only resort?
Mostly no — the bungalow complexes keep non-guests out to protect the pool's privacy, not to charge a fee. Choose Basement, Seven or Axel (day passes) or a mixed hotel, where booking the room for two guests settles it.
How do I get to the gay beach?
Walk the waterline south from Playa del Inglés (25 minutes) or take the marked dune path down from the Riu Palace mirador (15–20 minutes) to Kiosko 7. Stay on the path — fines in the reserve run €150–600.

How far ahead should I book for Maspalomas Pride?
Men-only resorts: 4–6 months. Mixed hotels near the Yumbo: 6–8 weeks. Expect roughly double the off-season rate.
How do I get from the airport after midnight?
Night bus line 5 (hourly 00:00–03:00, ~€4) or a radio taxi (€45–60 with night supplements). The direct 66 bus stops at 20:30; Uber is not reliable in the south.

Where do I go for PEP or an emergency?
Hospiten Roca in San Agustín (private, 24 h, seven minutes by taxi) unless you carry an EHIC, in which case the public Centro de Salud de Maspalomas — with long waits.
