About this place AxelBeach Maspalomas

AxelBeach Maspalomas is a purpose-built, adults-only gay-friendly resort operated by Axel Hotels, the Barcelona-based hospitality group that has built a strong reputation across Spain and beyond for creating welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ travellers without excluding straight-friendly guests. Axel describes its properties as "heterofriendly," meaning the primary audience is gay, lesbian, bisexual, and queer travellers, but the hotels are open and welcoming to all adults. The Maspalomas property leans firmly into a resort aesthetic — sun-soaked, social, and unapologetically body-positive — making it a popular choice for those seeking a holiday that combines relaxed beach culture with a distinctly queer atmosphere. The overall vibe is lively but not overwhelming, sitting comfortably between a boutique lifestyle hotel and a full-scale resort. The property features a range of room types across its low-rise building, with options typically including standard rooms, superior rooms, and suites, many of which offer terrace or pool views suited to the warm Canarian climate. The centrepiece of the resort is its outdoor pool area, which is clothing-optional and men-only in designated sections, a detail that distinguishes it from more generic accommodation in the area and draws a loyal clientele specifically seeking that environment. There is also a rooftop terrace, which serves as a social hub particularly in the evenings, and a bar that keeps the energy going throughout the day and into the night. The hotel additionally offers a sauna and gym facilities on site. Food and beverage options are available within the hotel, with breakfast and other dining provided in line with the all-inclusive or room-only arrangements guests select at booking. Maspalomas itself sits at the southern tip of Gran Canaria and is one of Europe's most established gay holiday destinations. The hotel's location on Avenida de Touroperador Tui places it within very easy walking distance of the Yumbo Centre, a four-storey commercial and leisure complex that functions as the undisputed heart of gay nightlife and daytime socialising on the island. The Yumbo houses dozens of gay bars, clubs, restaurants, sex shops, and saunas, and it becomes particularly animated after dark. The famous Maspalomas dunes and the beach area popular with gay visitors are also reachable on foot or by a short ride, with the broader Playa del Inglés resort strip providing additional restaurants, supermarkets, and amenities. Public transport connections to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the airport are available, though many guests find taxis or ride services more convenient for longer journeys. The best time to visit for those seeking the full social experience is between October and May, when northern Europeans flock to the Canaries to escape colder weather, and when the resort operates at high capacity. Gran Canaria hosts several major LGBTQ+ events through the season, most notably the Maspalomas Gay Pride, which typically takes place in May and attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the island, and the Maspalomas Winter Pride held in November, which has grown into one of the largest off-season LGBTQ+ gatherings in Europe. In addition, circuit-style party weekends and themed events are held at various points in the calendar, drawing a crowd that tends to skew toward gay men looking for a high-energy party atmosphere. Couples, solo travellers, and groups of friends all book the property, with the clothing-optional pool sections being a particular draw for those who want an environment where nudity is normalised and celebrated rather than tolerated. Guests should book directly through the Axel Hotels website or a reputable travel agent to confirm current room categories, meal plan options, and any event-specific packages, as availability during Pride and circuit weeks fills up far in advance. The clothing-optional and men-only areas of the pool carry their own informal etiquette, and guests unfamiliar with such environments will generally find the atmosphere relaxed and respectful rather than aggressively sexual. While the hotel skews strongly toward gay male clientele, lesbian and queer travellers are welcome throughout the property, and the broader mixed areas including the bar and rooftop are genuinely inclusive spaces. Those who prefer a quieter or more intimate holiday may want to visit outside of peak event weekends, when the resort has a more laid-back feel while still retaining its LGBTQ+-centred character.

You can simply drop in as a guest. The day pass for €25 is a great deal...plus, the large Axel Beach towel is provided, which is fantastic. Especially the all-you-can-eat breakfast from 9 am to 11 am by the pool is absolutely amazing, and it's nice to be able to watch the action while you eat. Afterwards, there are sun loungers, the pool, and all the entertainment you need for a great day, even the gym. This Saturday package is super cool, with hot music.

Excellent experience at this hotel! The service from Aythami, Álvaro, and Dayana was outstanding. They were very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed, and their energy was incredibly positive and friendly!

The staff were friendly and welcoming, but we felt ripped off with the day pass and barbecue package. The quality and quantity of the food left much to be desired for the price. We would have appreciated a better explanation of the service we had booked. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL.

The hotel could use a complete renovation. The corridors are long and dark, like a prison. The rooms are also quite gloomy (black floors and super cheap furniture). The bathroom is 30 years old. The pool area and garden are worth a visit.

We have had a wonderful stay. Pool area is beautiful. Location is excellent. About 100m to the Yumbo. Lovely restaurant locally called Allende 22 (think that is the spelling)

I'll definitely be back! I went with my partner and we had a fantastic time, great atmosphere, very chill. The rooms had everything I needed, with air conditioning, and the bed was very comfortable... The pool area was great fun, with its jacuzzi and everything, I loved it. The reception staff were very friendly, really nice people, they treated us wonderfully, just like all the other employees. I wish I could have stayed longer...
