About this place Playa del Inglés Gay Beach & Dunes

The gay beach section at Playa del Inglés, running toward the famous Maspalomas sand dunes, is the most consistently busy gay beach in Europe outside the summer months — a distinction that reflects Gran Canaria's unique position as a year-round gay destination. While the gay beaches of Sitges, Ibiza, and Mykonos close with their respective summer seasons, this beach remains populated with gay and nudist sunbathers in January, February, and March, when Northern European gay men arrive specifically for the combination of reliable warm weather and established gay infrastructure. The Maspalomas sand dunes — a UNESCO-protected natural area of Saharan-scale sand formations that stretch behind the beach and meet the sea at the island's southern tip — provide one of the most dramatic natural backdrops of any gay beach in Europe. The dunes are also, after dark, a significant cruising ground: the combination of the sandy terrain, the darkness, and the established tradition has made the Maspalomas dunes one of the most celebrated outdoor cruising destinations in Europe. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire on the beach itself; the beach bars of the promenade provide refreshment throughout the day.

Beautiful view, but everything was closed off. The path you see in multiple photos in the reviews was also blocked by a fence, and several police officers were holding you back. So, you couldn't walk in the dunes themselves.

Awful. If you're into nudism, this is the place for you. But oh well. You don't have the option of coming here. You see a lot of things you'd rather not see. Besides, the sun loungers and umbrellas are worn out, and there are lots of stones in the water. We jumped in briefly and then quickly left again. The water itself, however, was great.
