The honest summary: Stavanger has no gay hotels and no gay district, and that is fine. Norway's anti-discrimination law applies at every front desk, same-sex couples check in without a second glance, and the centre is small enough that location matters more than branding. This page lists the hotels we carry and what each one is actually good for. It does not repeat marketing claims.
Which area to stay in
If you plan to go out, stay around the Vågen harbour. The quayside bars of Skagenkaien and Strandkaien are there, and so is Fargegaten (Øvre Holmegate), the painted street that was home to the city's last queer bar (FRI Bar, now replaced by the mainstream C'est la Vie Bar) and that the Skeivå – Rogaland Pride parade passes through. The streets around the railway station and the Breiavatnet lake are a five-minute walk away and a little quieter. Hotels south of the centre are better for drivers.
Harbour and Fargegaten (best for nightlife)
- Hotel Victoria, Skansegata 1: a classic hotel at the head of the harbour (about 4.4 on Google). Helseutvalget, Norway's LGBTQ+ health organisation, lists it as the venue for its Sjekkpunkt pop-up HIV/STI testing sessions.
- Home Hotel Skagen Brygge, Skagenkaien 30: right on the western quay, a few minutes from the bars.
- Havly Hotell, Valberggata 1: about two minutes from Fargegaten.
- Radisson Blu Atlantic, Olav V's gate 3: the upscale option facing Breiavatnet, with a gym and sauna.
- Comfort Hotel Square, Løkkeveien 41: design-led and mid-range, with breakfast included and a rooftop terrace.
- Scandic Stavanger City, Reidar Berges gate 7: a reliable chain hotel on the east side of the centre.
- Vander - Pedersgata, Pedersgata 7: apartments on the restaurant street, good for longer stays.
- Stavanger Bed & Breakfast, Vikedalsgata 1A: simple rooms and a shared kitchen.
- Guesthouse Møllegata 39: a small guesthouse west of the centre.
- Best Western St. Svithun, south of the centre: free parking and breakfast. Best if you have a car.
- Book early for late August and early September, when Skeivå – Rogaland Pride takes place (2027 dates not yet announced), and for the Gladmat food festival in late June.
- Breakfast is included at most Norwegian hotels, which saves real money in an expensive city.
- Stavanger Airport Sola is about 14 km away, and the Flybussen airport bus takes roughly 20–30 minutes into the centre.
