The Mother City Queer Project (MCQP) is Cape Town's legendary annual costume party — not so much a pride march as an outrageous, themed fancy-dress celebration that has been packing venues since 1994. Each year brings a new theme (past hits include 'Disco Inferno', 'Jungle Fever', and 'Toys in the Attic'), and participants spend months preparing increasingly elaborate costumes. It's one of the most joyfully absurd queer events anywhere in the world, set in one of Africa's most beautiful cities.
