Brisbane's gay bars mostly stick to Fortitude Valley. You'll find the main cluster on and around Wickham Street. The Valley's the city's main nightlife district, so these gay venues aren't isolated; they're mixed in with everything else.
Wickham Street
Wickham Street is where Brisbane's gay life happens. The Wickham Hotel has been there for decades. It's a big pub with several bars, outdoor areas, and regular drag shows and theme nights. Other bars cluster around it, making up the core of Brisbane's gay scene on a Friday or Saturday.
It's not as big as Sydney's Oxford Street or Melbourne's Commercial Road, but you can easily walk to all the options in one go.
The Valley context
Fortitude Valley is Brisbane's general party hub. Clubs, live music venues, bars, and restaurants line Brunswick Street, Ann Street, and the surrounding blocks. The gay bars are part of this, which gives the area a mixed feel, even on the gay strip. It's not like Sydney's Newtown or Melbourne's South Yarra, where the gay scene really defines the neighborhood.
Pride week programming
During Brisbane Pride in September, the Valley's gay bars ramp up their events and performances all week. That's when the scene really comes alive. The Brisbane Pride street party adds even more energy to Wickham Street on key nights.

Practical notes
Fortitude Valley station (Inner City rail) is the easiest way in from the CBD or inner suburbs. Once you're there, the Valley is small enough to walk around. Queensland's liquor laws let places with the right license stay open late. Drink prices are pretty standard for Brisbane.
