Visitors often praise the hotel's friendly and helpful staff, good location near the Yellow River, and spacious, clean rooms. However, several guests reported issues with unpleasant room odors, specifically cigarette smoke, and some found the hotel to be more basic than a four-star standard, with one mentioning a blocked sink and unexpected charges for toiletries.

Gansu International Hotel is a gay-friendly hotel option located in Lanzhou Shi, the capital of Gansu Province in northwestern China. The hotel is situated on Qing Yang Lu in the Cheng Guan district, placing it within the urban center where most of the city's amenities and attractions are accessible. As an LGBTQ+-welcoming hotel, this venue provides accommodation for LGBTQ+-friendly travelers looking for a supportive environment while exploring Lanzhou. Very disappointed. Our room smelt of cigarette smoke. Out of all the levels there appears to only be 1 non smoking guest bedroom level. The air-conditioning also would only go on heat and not cool. When we asked for a new room they could only provide a twin bed room which was 4 rooms away from our kids. The new room still smelt terrible.

I stayed there only for one night so didn't get change to explore the location. The hotel is definitely not a four star standard. Pretty basic and the sink in a bathroom was blocked. They also charged me 25 yuan for using toiletries in the room....Staff are very friendly and helpful and service was good.

This was an acceptable stay - not much to say either way- a basic China 4-star hotel. Beds comfortable enough, room relatively modern and clean, the bathroom had a good size, with a rainforest shower . We were unable to have breakfast as we were leaving early but they arranged a packed breakfast of Chinese pastries and fruit to go. Location is ok , it is a bit far from the main tourist area of Lanzhou (30 min walk or short taxi ride), but otherwise fine. Restaurants in the area, including a McDonalds directly across in the event you are not wanting Chinese food.

The Gansu International was recommended to me by a colleague who accompanied me to Lanzhou. The location is suitable for a business traveler - close to the Huang He (Yellow River) and in proximity to decent dining options. The bell desk is friendly and helps in arranging transportation. They took good care of our luggage as well. The room was nice but it doesn't provide a great view, since it is surrounded by offices and is on a busy street. To my surprise, it wasn't a soft bed but quite a firm one which could have been a problem. Luckily it wasn't. I had requested for a non-smoking room but that too was ignored. The bathroom was clean and hygienic although the shower could produce only a trickle. In summary, I wasn't hoping for too much and I have stayed in places that were plain unsafe. Therefore, I wasn't disappointed. The front desk has a manager who is fluent in English and very eager to help. She was able to assist me with finding vegetarian food as well as connecting to the wifi. The one area of improvement would be the breakfast. Not enough International options (in case that is the target - at least the name suggests that!) and the bread was all broken and "funny". I decided to skip it. Also, the lobby is small and inadequate as a waiting area. There isn't enough place to sit since there is a bar adjacent to the lobby which takes up space as well. I could stay at this place for a couple of days but not longer. The Riverside is quite nice though and was the highlight of the visit.

This hotel, while the lobby is under reservation, is great value for money. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is walking distance to the Yellow River, which is the highlight of this dull city.
