Chaya Cinema

Chhaya (listed here as Chaya Cinema) is an old single-screen picture hall on Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road in north Kolkata, near the Maniktala crossing. It is listed as one of the city's remaining cinema-hall cruising spots, the kind of place where men meet in the dark during regular film screenings. It's not a gay venue and not a bar, and nothing about it is advertised. Our listing hasn't been verified, and many of Kolkata's single screens have closed in recent years, so check locally that it's still showing films. Be discreet, keep valuables to a minimum and remember that ordinary families come to watch the films too.
