Taichung GDi 台中基地

Taichung GDi (台中基地), run by the Taiwan GDi Association, is central Taiwan's only dedicated LGBTQ+ community centre and an essential resource for queer visitors as well as locals. Based on the eighth floor of a building on Jinxin Street in the North District, near the busy Yizhong Street shopping area, it grew out of a group founded in 2010 and has operated under the 基地 ("the Base") name since 2012. The centre offers free and anonymous HIV screening, individual and psychological counselling, gender-identity consultations, support groups and regular talks, alongside advocacy and education work. It is open Wednesday through Sunday, afternoons into the evening. For travellers, it is the best first point of contact for what is happening in Taichung's community beyond the bars.
