For more than two decades its compact gay quarter, the Paradise Complex, has drawn international travelers with cabaret bars, go-go shows, a men's sauna, gay guesthouses and an easygoing, welcoming atmosphere just steps from the sand.
Where the Gay Scene Is: The Paradise Complex
Patong's gay nightlife is concentrated in the Paradise Complex (often called Soi Paradise), a cluster of bars and small hotels off Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road, in front of the Royal Paradise Hotel and a short walk from the main Bangla Road entertainment strip. This is the heart of gay Patong: a walkable warren of open-air bars, cabaret venues and karaoke spots where the crowd is a friendly mix of Thai locals, expats and tourists. Note that Bangla Road itself is Patong's mainly straight go-go and club street, so the dedicated gay venues are around the Paradise Complex, not on Bangla.
The scene today is smaller than at its 2000s and 2010s peak, as several classic clubs have closed and the strip has contracted, but it remains lively in high season and is the undisputed center of gay life on the island.
Bars, Cabaret and Clubs
Long-running favorites include ZAG Club, the strip's cabaret and drag flagship; My Way, one of the oldest street bars in the complex; and Sundowners, a relaxed bar and guesthouse. Cruise Club Patong occupies the former home of the legendary Boat Bar, founded in 1994 and long celebrated as Phuket's oldest gay disco, and keeps the drag-cabaret tradition alive on weekends. Tangmo Club offers go-go entertainment, and Connect Bar & Restaurant is a popular, more laid-back spot attached to the gay-run Connect Guesthouse. Smaller karaoke and beer bars round out the strip. Because venues in Thailand open, rebrand and close quickly, it is always worth checking current status before a night out.
Aquarius Sauna, inside the Aquarius Gay Guesthouse on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road, is the only dedicated gay sauna in Patong, with a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, cabins and a rooftop terrace. For gay men's massage, Blue Dolphin Men's Massage has operated in the Paradise Complex area since 2001. Both sit within the gay quarter.
Several accommodations cater specifically to gay travelers, all in or beside the Paradise Complex: the men-only Aquarius Gay Guesthouse & Sauna, the gay-run Club One Seven boutique guesthouse in the Patong Art District, Connect Guesthouse above Connect Bar, and the gay-popular Fong Kaew and Baan Nang Fa Guesthouse. Beyond these, Patong offers everything from budget rooms to five-star beach resorts; staying near Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road keeps you within walking distance of the nightlife, while the beachfront is quieter.
Patong Beach is the town's long, lively stretch of sand. The informal gay section has traditionally gathered toward the southern end, around the La Flora and KUDO Beach Club area, where gay travelers sunbathe and socialize. The beach itself is mixed and family-friendly, and discretion is the norm.
Phuket Pride (also known as the Phuket Gay Festival) is one of Southeast Asia's oldest LGBTQ+ celebrations, first held in 1999 as the Phuket Gay Carnival. Historically staged in April, since 2024 it has moved to June to align with global Pride Month, with a week of parties, community events and a colorful grand parade along Patong Beach Road, plus events extending into Phuket Old Town. In 2025 it ran June 2 to 8 and in 2026 June 1 to 7; expect early June going forward. It is widely regarded as the best Pride in the region.
Cabaret
For a classic Phuket night out, the world-famous Simon Cabaret, a lavish transgender revue running since 1991, stages several shows nightly in Patong. It is a mainstream tourist attraction rather than a gay venue, but it is a fixture of the local scene and a fun addition to any itinerary.

Getting There and Around
Phuket International Airport is about 45 minutes to an hour from Patong by car; the Grab ride-hailing app operates on the island, and hotels can arrange transfers. Within town the gay quarter is entirely walkable, with motorbike and metered taxis for longer trips. The scene runs late, and most visitors base themselves within a 5 to 10 minute walk of the Paradise Complex.
When to Visit
Patong has a tropical climate that is warm year-round. High season (November to February) brings dry weather, the biggest crowds and the liveliest nightlife; the June Pride week is a major draw despite falling in the low, greener season, when prices drop and the town is quieter.
