Phuket is one of Thailand's most LGBTQ+-welcoming destinations — a mix of organised gay infrastructure in Patong and genuinely quieter beaches elsewhere on the island. Here's where the scene is.
The main action is in and around Patong — the Paradise Complex houses gay bars, clubs, and guesthouses and sits just back from the beach. The beach itself is crowded and mainstream, but the gay social scene concentrates around the Complex in the evenings. During Phuket Pride (April/May), the beach parties and venues around Patong fill up considerably.
About 5 km southwest of Patong by road or boat — a more secluded option with clear water, white sand, and a quieter atmosphere than the main beach. Monthly Full Moon parties with music, fire shows, and dance performances. Facilities include sun loungers, food vendors, showers. LGBTQ+ visitors find it more relaxed and private than Patong. Accessible by songthaew or taxi from Patong.
Accessible only by boat from Patong (10-15 minutes) — one of Phuket's genuinely secluded beaches. Crystal water, coral reef for snorkelling, hills framing the bay. No road access means the crowd is self-selected: people who made the effort to get there. Food vendors on site; bring extra water and sunscreen. Very different atmosphere from the Patong scene.
South of Patong — Phuket's longest beach, quieter and more residential. Dining, bars, and shopping along the strip. Gay-friendly rather than explicitly gay, but a comfortable and relaxed environment.
