Timor-Leste Pride — Marsa ba Diversidade

Timor-Leste's Pride march, the Marsa Diversidade (Diversity March), has been held in Dili since 2017. It started as a small community initiative and soon had official support. Coverage of the third march reported about 3,000 people. Homosexuality is legal in Timor-Leste. The Heinrich Böll Foundation notes that the country hasn't followed the wave of anti-LGBTQ laws elsewhere in the region, but stigma and exclusion are still part of daily life for many queer Timorese.

The march goes through central Dili. Marchers include LGBTQ Timorese, their families, civil society groups, members of parliament, government officials and diplomats. It's free and open to anyone. In 2026 the route passed the beachfront and finished with a gathering outside the Secretariat of State for Arts and Culture.

The 8th march took place on 11 July 2026 under the theme "Courage". President José Ramos-Horta opened it, and the human rights ombudsman, Virgílio da Silva Guterres, gave a speech. The Heinrich Böll Foundation reported hundreds of participants. The 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked.
