About this place Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi

The Sofitel Legend Metropole is the most famous hotel in Vietnam and one of the great colonial-era hotels of Asia. Operating since 1901 in a white neoclassical building on the edge of the French Quarter near Hoan Kiem Lake, the Metropole has housed Graham Greene (who set scenes from The Quiet American here), Charlie Chaplin, and a succession of heads of state and cultural figures across more than a century of Vietnamese history. The restored Legends Wing, in the original 1901 building, is among the most atmospheric places to stay in Southeast Asia. For LGBTQ+ travelers, the Metropole provides what the best international luxury hotels always provide: a professional, unambiguously welcoming environment where the quality of the stay does not depend on who you are traveling with. The Sofitel brand's global service standards mean same-sex couples are treated with complete professional normalcy, and the hotel's international clientele ? diplomats, executives, cultural figures from across the world ? creates a social environment in the public spaces that is cosmopolitan and open. The setting is unbeatable for exploring Hanoi. Hoan Kiem Lake is immediately adjacent, the Old Quarter is a few minutes' walk north, and the French Quarter's boulevards are the immediate neighborhood. The hotel's own restaurants include Le Beaulieu, the finest French restaurant in Vietnam, and Spices Garden, an excellent Vietnamese restaurant. The Bamboo Bar, with its terrace, is one of the best settings in the city for an early evening drink. The pool, in a garden courtyard, is a rare luxury in central Hanoi. The spa is comprehensive. The concierge team is knowledgeable about both Hanoi's history and its current cultural and social life and will assist with all requests without reservation. For LGBTQ+ visitors who want to experience Hanoi at its most beautiful ? the colonial city, the lake, the extraordinary food, and the complex layered history ? the Metropole is the accommodation that matches that ambition.

Five stars is really too little; I'd give it six if I could. Special thanks to Man Hoa - Flower (Ms.) for the exceptional service. The overall atmosphere was very French; you get the French feel without spending money on airfare or time. There were plenty of staff, so there were no worries about anything. The location is excellent, practically in the heart of the city center. I was initially worried that a 125-year-old hotel would be in poor condition, but it was surprisingly well-maintained, even though I stayed in the newer building. It's very convenient for shopping at Rimowa, LV, and IWC. I regret not booking the entire trip here 🙂‍↕️😆 The hotel staff speak excellent English and even a little Chinese 😁

The hotel rooms weren't overly spacious, and the furnishings weren't brand new, but they were neat and tidy. The room even had a work desk, which was a nice touch; it seems the hotel cares deeply about the convenience of its guests. The atmosphere was quiet, with lots of greenery, and the garden and swimming pool were particularly pleasantly tranquil. The most memorable experience was visiting the hotel's basement, as it felt like a repository of historical artifacts.

We stayed at Metropole after two weeks travelling through Vietnam. It was the cherry on the cake ! Welcomed by Raul who was very kind and attentive with a personnalized check-in. Room was ready when we arrived with special attention for our last day in Hanoi. Make sure to book the tour of the hotel so you can learn about the history of this special Hotel. Breakfast was great with some dish a la carte. Ha was very nice and kind. Overall we had a great time at the Metropole Hanoi. Service was top notch. We highly recommend staying in Heritage rooms - well equipped and comfortable.
