I was amazed by the excellent service. I have stayed at many other Accor hotels, but this was one of the best. I enjoyed my entire stay.

While this is undeniably a legendary property with unmatched history, fantastic luxury details, and extraordinary staff who speak fluent English (a rarity compared to other Accor properties in Vietnam), our actual stay was a bit disappointing. A few notable issues: * The room had a distinct moldy smell. * Construction and renovation noise was intrusive throughout the day. * The TV channels didn't work for our entire stay in both rooms. * The beds were uncomfortably hard, while the pillows were overly soft and almost unusable. * There was an awkward mix-up in the Executive Lounge as the lounge staff questioned our access which created an unwelcoming moment. Sofitel Metropole is a really nice hotel, but I've seen too many bits and pieces that don't go together with probably the most famous hotel in Vietnam. During out Vietnam holidays I've had more pleasant stay in brand new Pullman Ninh Bing or Pullman Danang, even in the new Novotel Danang. Pullman Ninh Binh and Novotel Danang offer by miles better value for money. Also, the tip I've received from a manager in another Accor hotel is to check a brand new Fairmont in Hanoi, which supose to be a true top class.

Hotel with a rich history! A slightly older hotel. But with charm and character. Service is top-notch! If you stay there, be sure to take the bunker tour!

Edit: Updated review of this property based on my subsequent stays which were much better. Updated review - I had given this property a second chance and the service was finally on par with its reputation. My butler was sorry about my first lackluster experience and the hotel staff made an effort to ensure my second stay was pleasant. Highly recommend with Heritage Wing benefit. My third stay was still good, but I was a little disappointed in the lack of acknowledgement even though I shared that we're on honeymoon. Nevertheless, beautiful room and great chocolate (we had to purchase more at the boutique), but I miss the toiletries from before Diptyque. Original review below - Accor platinum members: Help make the hotel better by opting to stay elsewhere Having stayed at dozens of Accor properties across Southeast Asia, this was the first time I felt compelled to write a review due to disappointment. I arrived around noon and appreciated that the receptionist recognised my Accor Platinum status and arranged check-in at the lounge on the 7th floor, where I was offered drinks and snacks. Unfortunately, that was the extent of the recognition during my stay. The check-in process took about 30 minutes, partly due to staff changes requiring me to repeat my last name twice. I was told no room upgrades were available, yet later saw multiple room types still bookable for that night on the Accor app, which was confusing. Additionally, when asked about late check-out, I was informed the latest possible time was the standard 12pm due to high occupancy, making the initial question seem unnecessary. Other issues included technicians spending an hour fixing all three non-working phones in my room, repeatedly being asked for my room number when contacting staff, requested amenities not being delivered, and no response to my detailed email outlining these frustrations even after 20 hours by the time I checked out. On the positive side, the lounge breakfast, especially the beef pho, and drinks at the pool bar were enjoyable. However, the cramped rooms, outdated facilities, and inconsistent service made the experience feel overpriced - for a fact I got much better experience at other Accor hotels in Hanoi. For fellow Accor Platinum members, you might consider staying elsewhere until these issues are addressed to help encourage improvements. As a staff member said: "Sorry, we've got too many platinum members staying here."
