November 2026 Book Club: Laziness Does Not Exist by Devon Price
About the event
Our November 2026 read is the non-fiction Laziness Does Not Exist (256 pages/ 8 hours) by Devon Price, PhD. Laziness Does Not Exist explores the psychological underpinnings of the “laziness lie,” including its origins from the Puritans and how it has continued to proliferate as digital work tools have blurred the boundaries between work and life.
Social psychologist Dr. Devon Price is autistic and transgender and has written works exploring themes such as autistic identity, trans identity, and masking. framing autism as a non-pathological social identity, while also acknowledging it as a neurodevelopmental disability. Price has also delved into the intersectional nature of neurodiversity and the experiences of autistic people of color. In Laziness Does Not Exist, Price explains that people today do far more work than nearly any other humans in history yet most of us often still feel we are not doing enough.
“From social psychologist Dr. Devon Price, a conversational, stirring call to “a better, more human way to live” (Cal Newport, New York Times bestselling author) that examines the “laziness lie”—which falsely tells us we are not working or learning hard enough.”
Social half-hour starts at 6:30 and the book discussion starts around 7:00. We will be inside in the usual room. It's inside, past the bar, up the stairs, left through the door, and past the restrooms. Ask at the bar for directions.
Second Line will have food available from their kitchen.
Second Line asks that you not bring in any outside drink, even non-alcoholic ones. Please support Second Line, a place that gives us a space to meet for free.
We also recommend that you bring your own chair because it will be more comfortable than the ones Second Line provides.
