Ghent River Hotel

Great rooms and service. The breakfast buffet was really good in the open rooftop with a lovely view to the canal. It’s definitely worth it with the great location too.

This hotel is a long ride by tram from the train station but only a 5 minute walk at the end. Good location on the canal - and if you get a canal window, it is charming.. The staff are helpful and hospitable. No breakfast but they had a fridge - and a kettle. The canals are charming, the castle full of history and the bakery nearby, excellent for savoury. No goof for fruit and sweet bakings.

Excellent hotel with an amazing staff. Would highly recommend. The staff was very helpful and supportive of the stay.

All ok, very nice hotel!

We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights. Construction is ongoing next door which during the weekdays causes noise from trucks going in and out of the construction zone. During the weekends there is a bar across the street which is open until 5AM. The later the hour the more noise from arguments and fights can be heard. On the 4th day of our stay we ran out of soap. Multiple requests were made but in vain. The last day we were told that the hotel ran out of soap. The cleanliness under the bed leaves to be desired.

The room does not have towels. There is only one power outlet in the room to use. The toilet does not have ventilation.

We take your complaint very seriously and fully understand that the incident involving the entry into your room was experienced as very unpleasant and confronting. After internal consultation and inquiries with our staff, we wish to clarify the following. The head of our housekeeping did indeed enter your room that morning, but definitely knocked beforehand as prescribed within our procedures. Presumably, you did not hear this because the shower was already running. Our employee has been working at the hotel for more than 15 years and is very well aware of the applicable privacy rules. Moreover, all employees are explicitly instructed that rooms must never be entered without prior notice. Nevertheless, we understand that this situation was particularly uncomfortable for you. Even if there was no malicious intent, we acknowledge that this was a human error that should not have occurred. We offer you our sincere apologies for this. To avoid similar situations in the future, we will closely monitor and tighten our internal communication and checks between reception and housekeeping. Your report is being included in our evaluation of current procedures. We would also like to provide some clarification regarding the sauna. Our sauna is always available to guests by reservation at the reception. When there are no reservations, it is temporarily switched off. At the entrance to the sauna, there is also a notice requesting that you report to the reception first so that we can preheat the sauna. A misunderstanding may have existed regarding this. The sauna was indeed functional on the morning in question. Regarding your comment about the cleanliness of the shower and the presence of hair, we deeply regret this. Housekeeping also had the task of cleaning the sauna that morning, and presumably you were there at a time when this cleaning had not yet been fully completed. Nevertheless, we understand that this detracted from your experience, for which we also apologize. We appreciate that you took the time to inform us about this. Feedback from our guests helps us to further improve our services. Your complaint will be handled internally and discussed with the relevant departments. I don't usually rate hotel service and treatment, but at this hotel, we had a terrible experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I wouldn't wish on anyone the experience of planning an anniversary trip with your partner and your infant daughter, only to have to cancel your flight with a doctor's note for a serious illness. The airline immediately gave us a credit to use on another flight, but this hotel wouldn't let us change our plans or get a refund, and on top of that, they treated us terribly. I just hope the person who wrote to us doesn't have a family or have to go through the same thing. I would never recommend this service or treatment.
