What reviewers say

Visitors frequently praise the Novotel Gent Centrum's excellent central location and the exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff, with specific mentions of individuals like Serda and Eduardo. However, a recurring complaint is that the hotel rooms are dated and could benefit from refurbishment, and some guests have experienced issues with parking registration leading to fines.

Starting with the “ok’s” - location is prime depending on season. In my stay there was a festival right next to the hotel which meant loud music until 1am every night. The rooms and the hotel itself look ok. Nothing special but an expected level from an Ibis, for instance. Now to the bad: I was incorrectly charged twice for 2 city taxes. I booked 2 separate rooms for 2 people they charged city taxes for 4 people. The mistake was flagged during my stay but nothing was done. I contacted the hotel a week after and got no replies. I contacted Accor customer service 3 weeks later and 3 more weeks in, no response. I suppose they just pickpocketed the extra city tax. Very unprofessional and scammy of them. Enjoy the tip. Never staying at this or any other Accor hotel worldwide again.

The hotel is in a very central location, close to the main tourist attractions, across from graffiti street. Bars, cafes, and restaurants of all kinds are nearby. You can use the spa privately for one hour by booking at reception. We really appreciated the care given to our dog: they provided bowls, a spill-proof mat, bags, and treats. The only downside: the rooms! They could use a makeover, at least for the price we paid. The bed was small, and upon entering, the room had a strange odor, like cigarette odor permeating the carpet. I also found the laundry service prices excessive.

Do you like having twenty year olds constantly walking outside your hotel, keeping you up all night long with shouting and yelling , then you’ll love this place. It’s Friday nights and I’ve been kept awake ALL night long. I feel like I’m staying at a Fraternity house. Not recommended for anyone over the age of 30.

Serious violation of privacy and safety What should have been a relaxing stay ended in a very unpleasant experience. During our stay, the hotel assigned the same room to another guest while we were still legitimately using the room. As a result, complete strangers were able to enter our room. At that moment, my partner was just naked in the room after showering. The shock, embarrassment, and sense of insecurity were immense. What makes this situation even more unpleasant is the way the hotel subsequently handled it. No manager came by, no personal apologies were offered, and no attempt was made to take the impact of this incident truly seriously. Afterwards, only limited compensation was offered that is completely disproportionate to the severity of the event. Everyone can make a mistake. The real problem is how an organization acts afterwards. In this case, we felt that the responsibility was placed entirely on us and that the seriousness of the situation was not acknowledged. A hotel is supposed to be a safe environment where guests can trust that their privacy is respected. That trust has been completely violated here. For that reason, we unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel. Pros: good location. Cons: serious privacy and security breach, insufficient aftercare, lack of responsibility and professional handling.
