Shakespeare and Company

I was a bit disappointed on the first day I visited since there was a huge line up and I was told it’s at least an hour wait. It was very hot that day and so I’ve decided to go back. Second try and this bookstore did not disappoint. I went around opening time 10am. And there was only a couple ahead of me. I loved all the different themed rooms. There’s room for romance, fiction, manga, children’s books room and a reading room upstairs. I think not being able to take photos inside makes this place even more special. Although I saw a few people who tried to sneak taking some photos. The cashier is located just before the exit and that’s where all the merchandise souvenirs available. I bought a book cover for myself daughter and a matching tote for myself. I only bought one book but I asked for two book marks one for my daughter and for myself. Don’t forget to get your book stamped. It is complimentary and a great addition to my souvenirs. What a great experience, one that I will always remember. Visiting this bookstore is a definite must in Paris especially if you love books. They also have a cafe which is on a separate entrance but right beside the shop. My husband had coffee there while he was waiting for me and the cafe has such a cute aesthetic vibe. You can also buy some souvenirs there like tote bags and notebooks. Will definitely go back on my next trip and hopefully take my daughter someday.

It's definitely worth a visit. It's a bookstore with both English and French books, and you can find anything you want. The atmosphere is truly an experience to enter. They also offer piano lessons, making the visit even more immersive.

The best spot for an inexpensive break and to admire Notre Dame with a €6.50 lemonade. The bookstore is interesting and you'll have to queue, but the cafeteria is accessible and good value for money... don't miss it!

I waited around 5–10 minutes to get in, and it was definitely worth the short wait. The bookstore has a beautiful atmosphere and it’s really interesting to walk around such an old and iconic literary place. The interior is charming, with old bookshelves, small rooms, and lots of character. You’re not allowed to take photos inside, which is a little disappointing because the interior is very photogenic, but it also helps preserve the atmosphere. You don’t need a lot of time for the visit , around 20–30 minutes is enough to explore it at a relaxed pace. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area, even if you’re not planning to buy a book.

Terrific - we were keen to visit this renowned shop; and were not disappointed. It is another world inside. The bookstore has such a nostalgic atmosphere, with tiny rooms, wooden staircases, and books stacked everywhere! It certainly feels like you have stepped into another world. It can be quite popular and rather crowded so best to go early if you can. We spent about 45 minutes here. Definitely a must-visit if you love books, history, and classic Paris vibes.

Good books

Charming little spot! It’s very popular and it’s very crowded but the book selection is pretty good and all the tiny rooms make the experience of fun little treasure hunt. Definitely worth it to go upstairs to the reading room and sit for a little bit to try and catch that Lost Generation vibe.
