About this place Marietta

Marietta, in Prenzlauer Berg, is a café-bar and lounge with a 1970s retro feel. It’s the kind of place you sink into a sofa and stay for hours, unpressured. The vibe is lived-in, not slick, and its slightly out-of-the-way spot keeps it feeling like a neighborhood joint, not a tourist trap. Locals like it, and so will you. The crowd changes through the week. Wednesdays are the gay night, which means it fills with mostly men. If you want a more explicitly queer scene, that’s when to go. Smoking is allowed. They open at 3pm every day, but closing times vary; gay Wednesdays usually run later. Berlin’s gay bars are known for being relaxed, and Marietta fits right in. It’s about comfort and community, not flashy décor. You’ll find a welcoming atmosphere and a nostalgic look, whether it’s a regular night or a Wednesday. Check their website for current hours: marietta-bar.de.

I'm extremely sad that this place is closing at the end of 2024. It's been a great local neighbourhood bar, with a lovely queer night every Wednesday. The staff are really lovely and fun. It will be missed!

Nice cozy bar with good, classic cocktails, and friendly staff. Sitting outside is also nice if you don't like the smokiness inside. Seen some negative reviews about racism. Never experienced this as a brown man myself having been there many times :) Show the staff respect and they will return the same.

Thank you all so much, my heart, or rather ours, is bleeding – not having you in three weeks – I'm going to cry. THANK YOU Steffi, Robin, Kai, Corentin, Rumed, Cornelius, Andreji, Ribal – I hope we haven't forgotten anyone, and of course you, Roberto, for the wonderful time we had with you whenever we were able to spend it.

First of all, I very rarely write reviews, but in this case, it's necessary. At first glance, the bar looks absolutely beautiful and cozy. Unfortunately, the disappointment quickly sets in upon entering. The drinks are relatively expensive for the poor quality. However, the worst and most outrageous thing was the waiter/bartender. He yelled at me over something trivial. When I told him to calm down, he loudly gossiped about me. He ignored our table for the rest of the evening. I have rarely seen such utterly excessive and inappropriately arrogant behavior. As a customer, I hope and expect that this behavior will have consequences soon! The waiter was a tall, muscular man with medium-length brown hair.

The entire bar reeks of smoke. The air is unbearable for non-smokers. It's hard to believe that smoking bars still exist in this day and age. The employees will probably have to suffer the health consequences in a few years. I'm truly sorry. My understanding of occupational health and safety is different.
