About this place Tante Horst

Tante Horst is a non-profit gay bar in Berlin's Kreuzberg, run by the Likörchenkollektiv since 2006. This is a local bar, the kind of place that nails the balance: welcoming to visitors, but definitely still a neighborhood spot. It's designed for hanging out, for drinks, for talking. But it’s more than just a place for a beer. Tante Horst's calendar of events pulls from the creative and intellectual corners of Berlin's queer culture. Expect DJs, sure, but also readings, discussion groups, films, and concerts. It's a cultural hub, not just a bar. They're also notably lesbian-friendly, a real draw for queer women and non-binary people. You'll find it at 45 Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg, a short walk from U-Bahn stations Moritzplatz and Kottbusser Tor. This part of Kreuzberg, with its street art and alternative culture, feels like the right home for it.

I always enjoyed it there, but it's been closed since June 2016, which is a real shame.

Totally unfriendly, not recommended for people unfamiliar with Berlin, I won't be going back. It's a shame, because they initially made a cool, relaxed impression, but I have to agree the prices and music are good.
