What reviewers say

Visitors praise the hotel's charming, historic building and excellent central location, with some also commending the nice service and good food. However, a common complaint is that rooms can be uncomfortably hot in summer due to a lack of air conditioning and limited window opening, and some rooms have an unpleasant smell.

About this place Hotel Deutsches Haus

Hotel Deutsches Haus sits on Ruhfäutchenplatz, directly next to Braunschweig Cathedral and the Burgplatz, which is about as central as the city gets. It's a long-established mid-range hotel in a historic building, with a restaurant on site and the old-town shopping streets right outside. It's a mainstream hotel, not a gay venue. Google reviewers give it 4.5 from roughly 580 reviews and often mention the location and the breakfast. Onkel Emma, the city's queer bar and event space, is around ten minutes' walk south-west on Echternstraße.

For the actual stay, room was ok but top floor got extremely hot and no AC in summer. Also couldn't open the window wide to let air in. When asked if we could get our clothes washed, receptionist smiled and said of course just leave it in the bag. On checkout I handed a bill for €40 per wash. If the prices are going to be that extortionate they really should have given us a warning! Whole experience left a very bad taste and felt a lot like an intended trap. The receptionist was hardly sympathetic as well ("you should have asked for the price then 🤷"). So overall stay was fine, but feel ripped off.

A wonderfully charming place, full of flair and history. A hotel with character – not as boring and streamlined as modern hotels. It's wonderful that places like this still exist, and thank you to everyone who keeps them alive!

The location is superbly central, and it's a beautiful old building. The rooms are a mixed bag. Unfortunately, some have a terrible smell, requiring a room change. Breakfast is good. A decent location for a short stay.
