About the event

Paula. Self“ with the Puppet Theater „Mensch, Puppe!
In 2026, Paula Modersohn-Becker would have turned 150 years old. To mark the occasion, the Bremen puppet theater „Mensch, Puppe!“ is showing its new production „Paula. Self“ at the Kunsthalle Bremen starting September 12.

„Mensch, Puppe!“ embarks on a search for traces in the life of Paula Modersohn-Becker with „Paula. Self“, who, at a time when women were not envisioned as independent artists, forged the path of a painter. The play is an interdisciplinary-painterly-theatrical

approach, focusing on the artist's numerous self-portraits.

„Paula. Self“ is a co-production of „Mensch, Puppe!“ and the Kunsthalle Bremen and is aimed at adults. After „Hildegard von Bingen“ and „Irmgard Keun“, the Bremen puppet theater presents with „Paula. Self“ the last part of a trilogy about strong female personalities in the changing times.
