About the event
Waves and World Trade - The World of Women* in Seafaring
2-day workshop with boat tour, knowledge input, and creative output
September 10 and 11, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM each day
On the first day, we will move on and on the Weser river and dive into the world of women in seafaring. Women have been symbolically romanticized or excluded in the history of seafaring and in the maritime context. But beyond that, the question arises: Where do women really stand in the history of seafaring? And what roles do they play in today's maritime systems? Movement has long been stirred up in the water. Female artists, activists, researchers, sailors and captains are claiming their place on and by the water.
Inputs on shipping, world trade, seas, and stories, enriched with artistic interventions and experiments, will accompany us on this day.
On the second day, we will take the impressions ashore to the studio at the Güterbahnhof and continue working with them creatively. After an introduction to Risograph printing, we will design posters and postcards in an experimental collaborative process, which you can then take home with you.
