psychART: Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Trans* people and Intersex people with mental illnesses
About the event
A "crazy" group:
psychART, the group for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans* people and intersex people with mental illnesses.
"I'm a little crazy, but without psychART I would have gone almost insane." (Heike L. suffers from depression)
For whom?
From depression, anxiety disorders, phobias to schizophrenia – the severity and type of illness, as well as the duration of previous treatment, are secondary for participation in psychART.
Together, not alone. Community and exchange of experience are the best remedy against loneliness and isolation. Many a visit to psychART provides significant relief, which is why people participating in the group rightly ask: "Why should I always run against the wall in a dark room when someone can show me the light switch?" (Peter K. from psychART)
Diagnoses in the wind Lesbian and gay existence has rightly been removed from the WHO catalog of diseases since 1973. Nevertheless, there is a quite large and long-overlooked group of lesbians, gays, and bisexuals who suffer from mental illnesses. Here, psychART wants to close a gap.
We are not a substitute for psychotherapy, but rather see ourselves as an additional offering.
We are members of the Working Group Self-Help in the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Köln and are funded by the consortium of health insurance companies in NRW.
