About the event

It is the rediscovery of the year. In the early years of the Schwulen Straßenfest, a film was made that the Sub is now showing for the first time. Everything was recorded back then, from preparation to setup to execution. The documentary shows the Hans-Sachs-Straßenfest in 1993 and thus offers a rare insight into Munich's gay life back then. The film is sure to be a nice memory for everyone who participated back then. But it should also be exciting for everyone else who wants to get to know queer Munich of the 90s a little better. It wasn't an easy time in the aftermath of the HIV pandemic. Paragraph 175 was only abolished in 1994. "Our evening manager Franky M. came to us one day with a CD," recalls Robert Seiler, who coordinates cultural events at the Sub. Four hours of film from the Hans-Sachs-Straßenfest 1993! "After viewing the film, we knew we couldn't withhold this film from the public." Scenes from the unrenovated Hans-Sachs-Straße Under professional guidance from Simon A., a Sub member and trained editor, the Sub has shortened the film to a presentable length of about one hour and 20 minutes without losing the most important passages. The film lovingly presents selected sequences from the preparation, setup, and execution of the third Hans-Sachs-Straßenfest.
