We stayed in Suhl for three days at the HVD Grand Hotel – decent rooms, a large pool, and a spa area. The staff were friendly and always available. The breakfast buffet was very generous. We highly recommend this hotel.
I had a very nice and spacious room with a modern bathroom. It was in a quiet location. I really enjoyed my morning dips in the pool. The breakfast was plentiful and varied.
The staff was pleasant. The pool was nice and large for a business hotel, suitable for swimming. The steam room looked very nice, but unfortunately it wasn't working. The sauna was on, but quite small with rather narrow benches. We felt the room price wasn't quite commensurate with the standard offered. However, the friendliness of the staff made up for a lot. Breakfast was quite good, but the quality of the bread and rolls could be better. There were also pre-baked items that seemed fresher. P.S. The carpet might be clean, but you have to appreciate the "vintage" style.
The location is central, with sights and shopping easily accessible on foot. At first glance, the room seemed large and comfortable, however, the sofa and mattresses were worn out. The bathroom was large and modern, but I found the single-serve toiletries surprising; there are more sustainable options. We had half-board, and the food was adequate, but nothing special. Breakfast could be improved; there was a lot on offer at first glance, but the quality of the cold cuts was average at best, with many pre-packaged items, which is outdated. For a 4-star hotel, we missed having sparkling wine or salmon at the breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, there's no direct access from the parking lot to the hotel; luggage has to be carried up and down stairs, which is very inconvenient. The spa area was fine; the water was a bit chilly, but everything was very clean, and towels were provided. The decor was very basic.
