Giardini Margherita

Giardini Margherita is Bologna's principal park — 26 hectares of tree-lined paths, a lake, and open lawns south of the city centre. It doubles as the city's best-known outdoor cruising area, particularly active after 21:00 in the wooded sections around the north end of the lake. The park is well-used by mainstream visitors during the day, which has the effect of keeping it safe and well-maintained. After dark, the forested areas provide cover. The park is approximately 15 minutes on foot from the city centre and 10 minutes from the university area, making it accessible without transport. Peak activity is in summer (May–September) and on warm evenings year-round.
