The excitement has subsided, so as a warning to others, I can finally describe what happened at the hotel.
The hotel only gets two stars because of one employee who kindly and understandingly tried to resolve a tense situation.
We booked two nights there, one went well, then had to cancel the second one due to an increasingly loud party at the hotel, which the staff couldn't control.
At 10 PM, we went down to the reception desk to complain that our room was very noisy and impossible to sleep in. We were told that the party was downstairs, not in the room, and shouldn't be heard. However, after this comment, the receptionist assured us that the party would end at 11 PM. We agreed that was fine. Unfortunately, at 11 PM, we were forced to intervene again, as the noise was getting louder and the party didn't seem to be stopping. The gentleman said he had no control over this, but assured us it would take up to 24 hours. However, we went downstairs, already demanding a refund and wanting to leave, and the gentleman then offered us a room on the top (fourth) floor. We went down there together to make sure the noise wouldn't be audible behind the closed door. It was a little less noisy, but still. We figured that since 30% of the party would be staying overnight at the hotel, it would still be noisy, considering there were empty drink bottles scattered throughout the floors, which we pointed out to the employee. We told the staff member we were packing up and demanding a refund.
After packing, as we were going downstairs, we noticed the hotel manager having a heated discussion. He was shouting at his staff. When he noticed us, he fell silent and just coldly watched my husband leave. It was very unprofessional. Not to mention the fact that, as the hotel manager, he's the hotel's calling card, and that morning at breakfast, he didn't even make eye contact with us or show us any courtesy.
The receptionist, of course, refunded our money, emphasizing that he would only refund us for one night, since we'd slept through one, as if anyone expected a refund for two nights... we're not scammers! Around midnight, we left the hotel and found another one a seven-minute walk above a karaoke bar, but it was quiet enough that we couldn't hear a thing.
I think the hotel needs renovations and, at least, the doors need to be adjusted to reduce noise, as they're just regular, key-operated doors, not key-operated ones.
I'll also add that if breakfast is available from 7-10 a.m., the food in the bain-marie should be at least a little warm by the time we left at 9 a.m., but unfortunately, the candles under the bain-marie weren't even lit...
A very poor hotel, and not a budget one at all.
