Tryp Lisboa Caparica Mar is a large beachfront hotel on Avenida General Humberto Delgado in Costa da Caparica, on the south side of the Tagus across from Lisbon. It is a mainstream chain hotel listed as gay-friendly, not a gay venue. Most rooms are set up for beach holidays, and the sand is just across the road. Google reviewers rate it 4.2 across more than 4,600 reviews. Costa da Caparica's beaches stretch south for miles. Further down the coast, around the beach stops of the seasonal Transpraia train, is Praia 19, a long-established gay and nudist beach. Central Lisbon is 30 to 60 minutes away by bus or car, depending on bridge traffic, so this suits a beach stay more than city sightseeing.

Breakfast is not up to 4-star hotel standards; there's little choice, and the same selection is offered every day. Many of the tables in the dining room have a camping feel (they're tiled). On other tables, the surfaces were often damaged. We also had an evening buffet for €24 per person, but there's definitely room for improvement. The service in the bar area and at reception is friendly and attentive. The rooms are generally okay, but the sink isn't ergonomically positioned. The wardrobe offers very little storage space within easy reach. Room cleaning is adequate. All in all, it's more like a 3-star hotel.
