About this place Aura

Aura, on Terreiro do Paco, is a gay-friendly restaurant, lounge, and café that actually feels like one. It's the kind of place you can drop into for a quiet afternoon coffee or spend a whole evening over dinner and drinks without feeling rushed.

The food is Portuguese, but not in the stuffy way some traditional spots can be. Chef Mathias Duarte takes classic local dishes and updates them, mixing old-school flavors with newer techniques. You'll find genuine local cuisine here, but in a space that's decidedly comfortable and inclusive.

Since it's set up as a lounge-café, you don't have to commit to a full meal. Stay as long as you like with just a glass of wine, a cocktail, or even just a coffee. It makes a good base for a quick stop or a longer, more relaxed evening.

Its address at Terreiro do Paco means you're right in the middle of things, whether you've been sightseeing all day or just want to grab a bite in a central, easy-to-find spot. Check www.auraloungecafe.com for hours and specials.

Worst service I've ever experienced in Portugal!

A charming restaurant with a somewhat surprising and well-thought-out decor, where I had lunch today with my wife and our grandson. The menu didn't have the abundance of options found in many restaurants that, in the Portuguese style, present gigantic lists where we get lost, and certainly in the kitchen as well, but everything we ordered was well-prepared and tastefully presented. Quality wine by the glass. The service was kind, efficient, and friendly, provided by Teresa, assisted as needed by Carlos (I'm not sure of his name). We will most likely return.
