Bristol's gay scene splits into two spots: Old Market Gay Village, just west of the center, and a few places in Central Bristol. Outside London, it's one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly cities in the UK.

Old Market Gay Village

This is the main gay area—a bunch of bars and clubs in Old Market, west of the city center. It's a short walk from Bristol Temple Meads station.

    • BBB — Bristol Bear Bar (2 West Street, BS2) — The UK's first and only purpose-built bear bar. Staff keep the vibe attitude-free. Open Tuesday to Sunday. If you're a bear, this is where you go.
    • OMG (1-2 Frog Lane) — The biggest gay venue in the South West. Good sound and lighting; prices are competitive. This is Bristol's main dance club.
    • Queenshilling (9 Frogmore Street) — One of Bristol's favorite gay bars. They do karaoke, drag nights, and dancing. It's been around a long time and has a real community feel. Locals rate it highly.

    Central Bristol

    • Old Market Tavern (29-30 Old Market Street) — A traditional pub with good food and a gay-friendly atmosphere. Good for a quieter drink.

    Regular Events

    • MiX — A monthly indie-pop LGBTQ+ night, held the first Saturday at The Phoenix.
    • ESDR (Eat Sleep Drag Repeat) — Regular drag nights at Queenshilling.
    • Horseplay — Queer house, disco, and art events that pop up across the city.
    • Bristol Pride — Happens in July in Clifton Down. It's one of the UK's bigger Pride events outside London.
⚠ Getting there: Bristol is 1h40 from London Paddington by GWR train. The gay venues are a short walk or taxi from Temple Meads. Night buses run from the city center after midnight.
