On Pollard Street in Bethnal Green, just east of Shoreditch, you'll find a real piece of London history. This started as a working men's club in 1953, and it still feels like it, even as it’s become a home for LGBTQ+ communities.
It's a little off the main drag, which helps it feel different from most of London’s clubs. You can expect a refreshingly unpolished atmosphere.
They put on regular social events every week, and the program can really vary. Some nights are cultural and refined; others are wilder, even a bit unhinged. What you won't get is a predictable club night. They make a point of supporting local artists, musicians, and DJs, so you're likely to see emerging talent performing here throughout the week. The whole place feels unpretentious and community-focused, prioritizing good times over commercial polish.
If you're an LGBTQ+ visitor to London, this is a real alternative to the better-known gay venues. It’s more about social connection and local culture. There’s almost always something on, so check workersplaytime.net before you go to see what's happening during your visit. It's the right spot if you want a genuine neighborhood experience and want to support local LGBTQ+ artists.

Always the best night out! Staff are wonderful and the events are brilliant. Charlotte is wonderful to work with when putting events on. Long live BGWMC!
So much fun, had a great night here lots of fun performances
Five stars for Warren who was very responsive and helpful when I enquired about Private Hire for a birthday party!
awful communication. I have tried to book to hire the venue which is clearly listed on their site. I've counted 20 calls to which they did not pick even whilst open. multiple emails and messages on instagram. I even went there to give my name and email to the person at the door who said they would get back to me. do not bother phoning, it does not work. customer service is poor
DJING here for Bizzaro
