About this place The Old Ship

The Old Ship is a traditional gay pub on Barnes Street in London, a relaxed spot where you'll find a friendly crowd and good service.

This is a proper pub, not a club, with the classic look you want if you just want a casual drink or a night out with friends. It’s the kind of place you walk into and immediately feel comfortable.

They pour a good selection of beers. There’s also a pool room, which makes for a bit of social fun. It gets busy, lively even, but it keeps a low-key, inclusive vibe — exactly what a good London gay pub should deliver.

Locals and visitors alike come for a genuine pub experience, especially if they’re after something sociable but not flashy, well away from the big club scene. You can check what’s on at oldship.net.

Straddling the river Thames this pub offers a scenic riverside pub experience for reasonable London pub prices. However some downside bring its score down these include: - Food being just “okay” the steak was not up to scratch including an almost non existent sear, the fish had a cake like batter and the chips being dry. - My salt shaker had no salt in it, annoying

I visited The Old Ship Hammersmith for lunch with my daughter and we had a wonderful experience. I would especially like to highlight the outstanding service provided by Christian. His warm personality, attention to detail, and positive energy truly made our visit special. It’s rare to find someone who creates such a welcoming atmosphere so effortlessly. He played a huge part in making our experience memorable. We ordered the Sunday Roast Chicken and Beef, and both were absolutely perfect. The meats were tender, flavourful, and cooked to perfection. The Yorkshire pudding deserves a special mention – beautifully crisp on the outside, light, and not greasy at all, exactly as it should be. I also tried the Pineapple & Yuzu mocktail, which was delicious, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. To finish, we had the Sticky Toffee Pudding, and it was absolutely amazing. Rich, moist, and full of flavour, it was the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. The atmosphere was lovely, the table was beautifully presented, and every detail reflected the care and professionalism of the team. A big congratulations as well to the kitchen staff, who clearly take great pride in what they do. The combination of excellent food and exceptional service made for a truly enjoyable dining experience. Thank you, Christian, and the entire team at The Old Ship Hammersmith. We will definitely be back! Ju

Well - bit disappointed all in all. Room used for bookings is pretty average and not as nice as the other parts of the pub. But what really grated was the food - got used to grub in pubs being at least OK... So came to Old Ship expecting things to go well in that regard. BIG deception... We had a Prosciutto platter, 2 fish cakes and something else which I don't remember... Prosciutto was OK (hard to miss that if you buy descent ham!), but both fishcakes were just not at all as I hoped - was just plain haddock mixed with puree!!! Nothing more elaborate! Disappointed indeed! Next - for mains, salad, 2 fish n chips, bbq ribs... Salad was uneadible, literally swimming in oil!!! Fish was actually pretty good with a nice light batter... But chips were just again not edible! Poor quality (clearly frozen), and - crime of all crimes cooked only once. ANY GOOD RESTAURANT knows that chips - to be good - need to be paraboiled, pre cooked at 140 and then seized again at 180. EXCEPT the Old Ship's cooks it seems... Rib eye was OK - but again potatoe and coleslaw not! We were 4... Bill (just 4 beers, 1 glass of wine and 1 cider) came to 210£!!! That old ship must have been running under a pirate flag! All in all - great for a beer... to be avoided for anything else... Actually should have guessed from the onset - we were almost alone in a 50/60 dining area! The locals must have spotted the pirates!
