About this place The Rising SE1

The Rising is a queer pub at 98 Harper Road, on the back streets between Borough and Elephant & Castle in south-east London. It's a neighbourhood local more than a destination club. The schedule includes drag shows and quiz nights, drinks prices are fair for central London, and there's outdoor seating with dogs allowed. It's busiest on show and quiz nights and on summer evenings when the outdoor area fills up. Borough and Elephant & Castle Tube stations are both about ten minutes' walk away, and Vauxhall's larger gay venues are a short bus ride west.

Simon and Piers have a nice space here, and the bar staff are friendly but some of us have found the security staff (I won’t mention names) messy - now increasingly seeking conflict rather than resolving it. I can see why some gay men would like it, but there are other venues that are far more inclusive for everyone on our community - leave The Rising SE1 as a last resort.

The Rising is a great little gay bar if you're looking for somewhere away from the tourist crowds. It has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and feels like a genuine local hangout rather than a destination for visitors. The staff are welcoming, the drinks are reasonably priced, and it's an easy place to strike up a conversation with regulars. If you want an authentic neighbourhood bar instead of a busy tourist spot, The Rising is well worth a visit. Trans-Friendly.
