The Duke of Cornwall Hotel

The Duke of Cornwall is a Grade II listed Victorian Gothic hotel on Millbay Road, built in 1865 for Great Western Railway passengers arriving at Millbay. It has 72 individually designed rooms, reached by a sweeping staircase or a vintage lift, and many keep their period features. Bespoke Hotels runs it. It closed in February 2026 for repairs; in October 2026 its website was taking bookings again, so check before you book. It's a mainstream hotel, not a gay venue. The Swallow and Sappho's on Bretonside and OMG on the Barbican are the places to go for the city's small queer scene.
