Inn on the Lake

I needed somewhere to stay overnight, and it was perfect for that. The bed was comfortable, the noise from the A2 didn't bother me, though I didn't open my window, despite being quite warm overnight. What woke me up more was the horrible smell of decades of stale cigarette smoke embedded in the room. The staff when I checked in were lovely; the bar staff were ok, and the breakfast guy was very sweet. The food was fine, the breakfast was tasty. The surfaces are indeed ALL sticky (is it the old varnish?); the bath had burns in it. I didn't use the shower, so I can't comment on that. Yes, the place is dated... but I thought that was charming! It was cheaper than Travelodge etc, with breakfast thrown in. I would stay here again, but I'd bring an air freshener next time!

What sells this place is the view and only if you get a 'Lake view' room. Otherwise, you face a car park, which is free and spacious by the way. The booking comes with a free breakfast which is nice, however, the portions are really small. You are served a full English on a small plate (one small sausage, an egg, a bit of bacon and maybe two or three table spoons of beans). It was nice and enough for me as I don't eat much for someone who is used to a full breakfast, this would be too little. You may be able to ask for more, but I didn't ask. The chairs in the dining area were not clean. They were covered in hairs and other things. I did learn that this is a pet friendly place and I saw two dogs in the 1 nights stay so if you are allergic or don't like idea, this might not be the place for you. This place is an ideal stop off for people travelling (by car) with pets. The rooms are very old fashioned and not clean. There was a thick layer of dust in the wardrobe. No Slippers or robes. A flat pillow each. The two spare pillows in the bag, from the cupboard were needed for comfort. I found a packaged rubber on the floor, behind the nightstand. The mattress/ bed would make a noise at every movement and the TV was poorly located with the bed post in the way. The TV was not a smart TV. One of the sockets was not working which wasn't helpful and the lighting was very bad. For a bridal room that would be disappointing having to do your make in that light. There are no telephones in the rooms so you need to approach someone at the front desk for any assistance or call from your mobile. The bathroom was old and basic, poorly maintained. I had originally booked this for the spa tub as some places advertise the spa tub but that spa tub is only available in one room which I did not see on the booking options and this is not clear. The spa tub you see in the images is not in even a few rooms, just the one! Many of the images are of more modern rooms but it doesn't exactly reflect what you get upon arrival. As I said, the view to the lake was lovely, and a nice place to take a walk. It could have been better if not obscured by the window grilles but the tilt and turn windows were a nice way to let in air and enjoy the the view. If i were not for the views, free parking and the decent tasting breakfast, the rating would have been a lot worse. Probably ideal for an event but not the nicest stay but has so much potential. Disappointing.

Amazing

Old and run down. Reception desk stuck together with tape. Holes in the wall near the lift. Communal areas shabby and bedroom needs updating. Mattress past its best. Bathroom is like something out of the 1980s. Room is hot and stuffy even with window open ...pay extra and go somewhere better.

I travel a lot for work, and a late afternoon puncture on my car, a last minute booking was made until the next day when the tyre would arrive. I upgraded to a superior room with a view. I walk in to a horror scene from the 80’s Stains all over the extremely tired carpet. However I can move past the state of the rooms, whether plugs that don’t work and uncomfortable bed, as long as it’s quite at night. I assume a family of elephants were placed above in the room above me because until around 0100 i imagine they were just doing laps of the room. And then to be woken up at 0600 to the same thing. You can hear everything is any adjacent rooms. The room opposite the poor chap has come down with a cold this morning as I have heard him sneeze around 407 times. To add If anyone has watched the scene out the office where Micheal is bragging about is flatscreen TV, I assumed they installed the same TV in here. Just awful reminds me of a run down home for the elderly. And finally I stayed in a hotel with a PGA course attached to it, stunning rooms, modern about 40 minutes away the night previous for around £30 more. I wish I had slept in my car.

Great little hotel in a beautiful location. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was tasty. A lot has been made in other reviews about rooms needing renovation but I feel the current clean and acceptable standard is reflected in the value for money price. It was very pleasant to be in a hotel with actual staff and character rather than the big names which have barely anyone on duty.

Absolutely VILE place. My mum recently had her wedding there; The food was absolutely disgusting quality for £65 a head it was absolutely awful and not worth the cost, the breakfast the next morning was even worse. The service was disgraceful, a bunch of kids running round not knowing what to do, wedding planner was vile to my elderly grandmother and bar stuff were disgustingly rude. The rooms were absolutely filthy and extremely dated. What made the whole stay worse was not only the awful lack of exclusivity for paying almost 10 grand for a wedding but the fact there was several escorts…absolutely disgusting. Seems that the hotel enables this…a lot.
