Avenue Hotel Canberra

Stayed in a 1br apartment. Lovely! Think I could live here 😄. Bathroom is clean and well appointed and provided toiletries smell lovely. Lounge is spacious and furniture is comfortable. Kitchen is great, with full size fridge/freezer and cooktop. THE BED IS HEAVEN! Room serviced a chicken schnitzel for my dinner. Was prompt, hot and delicious. Lots of different choices for food a short walk away, as well. Provided parking is a real bonus, though tight to navigate in bigger vehicles.

I had an incredible stay at Avenue Hotel Canberra! It was so comfortable and relaxing, and the service was incredible too. The room was spacious with a modern touch. The staff were accommodating and friendly. I had a sumptuous breakfast, and the hotel’s interior looks fancy.

Tired, old, damaged rooms. Hairs in the room and bathroom 🤢. Everything felt dirty and unkept. The room was really dusty and claustrophobic. Marks and stains across all the walls. Aircon filter has never been cleaned (pictured). Shower was dirty. Asked for a quiet room and got one facing the highway. Staff were obliging when requesting a room change. Had to get a new key card 4 times as they stopped working in elevators and my room. If this is a ‘5 star’ hotel I’d like to see a 1 star. Never again.

***Update and response to Hotel's comments after original review: 5 star price with 0 star customer service, with Double Standards. Our family (2 kids in tow) could not check-in to a fully-paid family room without the registered guest present but you can cancel the fully paid reservation without authorization from the registered guest. Where is this stipulated in your policy? You had us leave the hotel without us having anywhere to stay on an Easter long weekend, and without us knowing for certain if you will refund our credit card. Who is at risk here? Have you refunded our credit card? My husband later explained to your staff on the phone after his matches finished, that there was no step to enter details of all guests during the booking process on your website. Can you explain this? We have lived abroad and travel globally extensively and we have never needed to make a phone call to hotels to inform them of guest names manually. It is the year 2026. When my family were left with no accommodation on an Easter holiday, my husband made the same online reservation for Hyatt and the booking system worked accurately and check-in process were super smooth, plus with staff smiling and happy to welcome our family on arrival (as apposed to distrust and animosity at yours). Jolina saying that she had "other things to do" when I offered a way for her to speak to my husband for authorization? Is that ok? That's a first. There were no hostility or inappropriate language from our end, rather complete shock and frustration from the negative attitude and lack of common sense. Refusing check-in after our family handed over receipts, booking reference, emails, mobile number to call, driver's license and my AMEX card which you were free to charge for any "security risk" my daughters and I might have posed on your so-called 5-star hotel. Also, there is NO email or number to call for your management for feedback anywhere. You only rely on Google Reviews to connect with guests? Sorry, this is not a 5-star establishment. An awful experience at check in where the reception staff Jolina Soliven prevented my family from checking into our pre-paid family room, because my husband was in fact playing competitive tennis at the ACT ITF400 tennis event all day and was not present at check-in. Even after I provided receipt, booking reference, credit card and drivers license plus a contact number for my husband, Jolina didn't let my family check in citing security reasons. When I asked for Jolina to try and call my husband again Jolina said "I have other things to do".. and yet insisted that my husband be contacted. Another staffer Mohit Boora had an issue that I have not changed my surname to match my husband and my kids and suggested we cancel the booking and shooed me and my kids out of the hotel. Without authorization. Extremely rude. Profiling at its finest with bigoted, narrow mindedness and poor customer service training all in one. Never booking here ever again. We moved to Hyatt which is bliss. Customer service is top notch, definitely 5 star at Hyatt.

Loved the rooms- generously massive sized and lots of table space. Free fast internet. The air conditioning was very reactive. The beds were amazingly soft and relaxing. Bathrooms were new and spacious, but wished soaps etc came in mini travel packs. Came with a medium fridge, microwave, stove and dishwasher. Wish the parking was included in the room booking. Would love to return again for a longer visit.

Very bad experience. Charged 50$ on the card a few days after I had departed the hotel with no explanation. Very unfortunate as otherwise the hotel met the expectations. Shameful.
