Hôtel Mercure Marseille Canebière Vieux-Port

We stayed for one night here. It was everything we could have wanted. The location is very convenient for the Vieux Port and within easy walking distance of restaurants. Our room was very comfortable with a typically French outlook onto the street below with Plaine trees in our view. We loved the trams with their bells passing by throughout the day. It was light and bright and soundproofed for a quiet and good night’s sleep. Great amenities in our room;- Nespresso coffee, Nuxe products, clothes steamer. However the best part of our stay was our Nepalese receptionist (we are so sorry not to remember her name). She was very efficient, helpful, informative and friendly. She made us feel welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely stay here again.

Mercure shouldn't damage its image with this practice: the breakfast eggs are presented as category 1 (respectful of animal welfare), and it offers caged eggs (category 3) with a photo to prove it. If they are aware of a specific situation, they must remove or modify the information given to the customer. Deeply committed to animal welfare and vegetarianism, these kinds of practices, like "we'll take the cheapest option and the customer won't notice," are no longer acceptable. A great disappointment.

The breakfast was very good, the hotel staff were very attentive and ready to help. The room, despite being a good size and well-equipped, had a bad smell on some days; we don't know if it came from the bathroom or the air conditioning. The pillows are high and there was no alternative.

Difficult to access. Breakfast is very expensive compared to what's offered, the same as at Ibis but at a lower price. We used to stay at the other Mercure hotel on the Old Port and found the service significantly worse for a significantly higher price.

A very friendly member of staff checked us in at reception; check-in was quick and easy. The room itself was nicely furnished, spotlessly clean, and had a very pleasant atmosphere. We were particularly pleased with the beautifully appointed bathroom and the complimentary minibar. The hotel is very well located; all the main attractions are within walking distance.

The hotel was very well located. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed. It was also quite soundproof. We were very comfortable. It was a real pleasure to return to our room after a long day of sightseeing.

This place is NOT where you want to stay. Upon arriving, our cab driver was surprised we were staying in the neighborhood AND at this hotel. He explicitly warned us not to walk on the streets behind the hotel, DAY OR NIGHT, and only to walk on the main street during daylight hours. It's a very rough neighborhood. After arriving and getting to the room, we found the room was not very clean, specifically dirty carpets and a worn out and mismatched decor. This is NOT a 4 star hotel. NOT BY A LONG SHOT. We left after the first night.

I was given a connecting room and felt unsafe given that I was a solo female traveller. Was met with a little unhappiness at reception when I requested for a room change. Also, I requested ahead for a high floor. The room change landed me in the first floor. View was nice but felt unsafe the entire time because people from the street could look directly into my room. Lilya and the other receptionist on day duty were quite friendly and provided helpful hints to explore around Marseilles. Overall the room cleanliness was pretty good and I liked the housekeeping, except it was not super thorough in the bathroom. Nevertheless, convenient enough location for me to wander. Thankfully the AC worked. Overall room had a nice enough layout but I could not get the sunlight I needed because of the location of the room I was provided. Customer service shouldn’t be tier based.
