It's not really a place for listening. I've come to understand that for many people at the Station, it's a place for "light" socializing (for small talk and making "friends"), which means they don't expect us to be looking for someone to listen, and they also don't understand why we wouldn't go there if it wasn't a place for listening. However, the place *is* promoted as a place for listening, help, and support. It's not possible to talk about your situation here, yet even if it were just for small talk, it would make more sense to be able to explain it to people in order to have honest relationships. (Just as people are now asked for their pronouns, it would be nice to let them introduce themselves or listen to them when they do, rather than guessing who they are.) Of course, there have been worse problems at this organization, but this is a long-standing issue that was already present when I first started going there in 2009/2010. It's presented as being first and foremost a place for listening, help, support, etc., but no one expects you to be there seeking a listening ear or support. Furthermore, people make assumptions about "who you are," and if your situation can be summed up in more than three words, you won't have the opportunity to correct people (or to be listened to if you try to correct them).
