Hôtel Beethoven

I am a regular guest at the Beethoven Hotel Dreesen and am extremely satisfied. The rooms are bright, clean, and comfortable, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating to guests.

The location is prime, right in Bonn's old town. The room was standard hotel standard, clean and tidy, nothing special. Please note: no breakfast on Sundays!

A small, charming hotel in Bonn's city center. Initially, I was worried I wouldn't get a key, as the reception isn't staffed around the clock. However, shortly before my arrival, I received an email and a WhatsApp message with an access code, which I used to pick up the key. The staff is very, very friendly, and the rooms were clean, though extremely small. The bathroom layout is very awkward; you practically have to step over the toilet to get into the shower. The rooms are very noisy. I was on the phone in the evening and was asked by my neighbors to be quiet. 🙈 For breakfast, you go next door to a small café. There, you can have an à la carte breakfast for a fixed price of €17.

We had expected MUCH MORE from a hotel with names like "Dreesen" and "Beethoven," which are well-known beyond Bonn, and also advertised as "designed by Bo-Konzept"—especially after seeing the photos online. The location was very good, although direct access by car was impossible. We were surprised by the access in the afternoon. The entrance door was locked, and the reception desk was unattended. We only received an access code via a posted phone number (for the pub next door). This is unacceptable for a hotel. The interior was also like a guesthouse—everything small and cramped. The room was on the first floor, directly adjacent to an interior patio. Opening a window or blinds was therefore out of the question. Any visitor there would have had a direct view into or access to the room. Speaking of the room: small overall, the furniture was dusty and worn, and there was no storage space for clothes. The bedsheet was frayed and riddled with holes. The bathroom was fit for a submarine. As a tall man, my knees hit the wall while sitting on the toilet – although I could lean my head against it. The shower tray was stained and the shower door wouldn't close. My wife only dared to go in wearing slippers. The towels had absolutely no absorbency. The next morning, we met a young man at reception, dressed very casually in jeans and wearing in-ear Bluetooth headphones. He was apparently the manager in charge of the hostel. After we explained the situation, he arranged for new bed linens, another room cleaning, and a small financial compensation. During our stay, we realized that this young man was responsible for ALL WORK in the hotel, except when he was taking a break in the on-site public café. Upon checking out, we also noticed that the stairwell hadn't been cleaned for at least two days. All in all, the accommodation was very unworthy of the price – even with a financial discount – two stars solely for the location.

I had booked a business room. It was really very small, especially the bathroom, which was tiny. Otherwise, everything was clean. The location is great, right in the old town, but also very noisy because there are quite a few restaurants on the street, and in the summer everyone likes to sit outside. Unfortunately, you have to close the window, but there was no air conditioning. Therefore, the small room was quite stuffy.

In my opinion, this place is more of a guesthouse than a hotel. Check-in is done via a safe, and in the mornings, someone (with headphones on) sits at reception (when they're not in the adjoining café) who seems rather uninterested and also handles the cleaning. The public areas appear very neglected and are quite dated in many places. The rooms are tiny, and their condition is extremely poor (just look at the much-praised but completely worn-out BoConcept furniture). The same applies to the bathrooms. They are also in poor condition overall, and the shower is completely dilapidated. Cleanliness is generally lacking. Rooms facing the courtyard cannot have windows or blinds opened due to the "roof terrace/smoking area" directly in front of them, and the courtyard is quite noisy from 7 a.m. onwards. The price-performance ratio is outrageous. €175 per night for such accommodation is completely unjustified. Never again! I felt very uncomfortable there.

Location, location, location…right in the pedestrian zone! Otherwise, rather poor. The reception was closed at 5:00 PM on Saturday…key safe…the single room was tiny, the bathroom even tinier, the shower was impossible to tip over…the pictures on booking.com don't reflect reality, at least not the room I was given…complaining wasn't possible because there was no one on site…service desert that is Germany.

The positive aspects are that the rooms are clean and the key safe entry worked without any problems. Perhaps the hotel is even quite nice for private city breaks, as it's located right in the city center, but in my opinion, it's unsuitable for frequent business travelers. Reasons: no parking, the rooms are so small you can't even turn around, the laptop doesn't fit on the tiny desk, sitting at the desk without touching the bed is impossible, the bathroom is even smaller, and the windows don't provide the necessary soundproofing that would be appropriate for a location in a pedestrian zone. It doesn't take much to satisfy me on business trips, but space for my laptop, suitcase, and myself in the room, as well as quiet, are the bare minimum, which unfortunately wasn't met here.
