À propos de l'événement

Join us for a special evening exploring the life and legacy of Michael Dillon (1915–1962), Ireland’s extraordinary trans pioneer and the first recorded transgender man to undergo gender-affirming surgery.
Following the exhibition of the same name, curator Francis Fay will be joined by Ruadhán Ó Criodáin, CEO of ShoutOut, for an in-conversation event reflecting on Dillon’s remarkable life and enduring influence.
Together, they will explore the historical significance of Dillon’s pioneering medical transition, his groundbreaking writing, and the challenges he navigated in mid-twentieth-century Ireland and Britain. The conversation will also consider how many of the issues Dillon encountered, including legal recognition, access to healthcare, media scrutiny, participation in sport, and family acceptance, continue to shape the lives of trans people today.
Blending historical insight with contemporary reflection, this conversation invites audiences to discover why Michael Dillon’s story remains as relevant now as ever.
