Hôtel Corps de Garde

Well-located, very friendly staff, warm and personal welcome, delicious breakfast, spacious room. The mattress was quite hard. The room was less stylishly decorated than the photos on Facebook. Single-pane windows and thin walls made it quite noisy.

In the city centre. Parking place nearby in case you are arriving by car. The train station is also less than 10 minutes walk.

Very atmospheric, small-scale hotel where every detail is perfect. Personal, welcoming, and well-cared for. Would love to come back!

We stayed at the Hotel Corps de Garde as a couple and can definitely recommend it. We received a very friendly and warm welcome upon check-in. We were completely satisfied with our room in the attic. The wooden beams exude a romantic charm, and the bathroom was clean with a very spacious shower. It was clean and cozy. It was occasionally noisy at night from the street, but it's a lively area, so that's to be expected. Within a few minutes' walk, you'll find everything you could wish for: restaurants, pubs, bars, and boutiques. Wonderful, a perfect location for a visit to Groningen.

Dutch Charm with a View Some hotels feel like they could be anywhere. This one couldn’t be anywhere but here. Corps de Garde is a great little Dutch hotel in the truest sense—practical without being plain, warm without fuss, and perched right at the entrance to Groningen’s old town. Step outside and the city opens up like a map you want to get lost in. The restaurant? Exceptionally good—actually, really good—and the breakfast they bring you in the morning is brilliant. Fresh, thoughtful, unhurried. The rooms carry that same Dutch sensibility: clean lines, plenty of light, and in my case, one very large main room with lots of space to stretch out. The showers are excellent. It’s a hotel that works for motorcyclists, too—safe underground parking sits right across the way, so you can tuck your bike in without worry. The service is just right: friendly, attentive, without the over-scripted smile. The kind of staff you actually want to talk to. Sure, my room overlooked the street, which meant privacy could be a challenge—but close the curtains, pour a drink, and you’ve got all you need. Good service, good company, good food. Very Dutch. And that’s the highest compliment I can give.

It's a steep price, but you get a beautiful, large, and stylish room. Ideally located on the edge of the city center, with a parking garage across the water. A bit noisy though, thanks to the wooden floor.

Excellent service! We had two comfort rooms. They were spacious, very clean, and stylishly furnished. What definitely sets this hotel apart is that, while it's certainly not the newest, everything in the rooms is in top condition. This also applies to the bathroom: no limescale buildup or anything like that. The shower head, etc., was in perfect working order. There's a paid underground parking garage across the street. If you book it in advance, your license plate is automatically recognized, and you even save money by paying in advance. In short: everything was perfect!

We were driving for 12 hours until we arrived at Hotel Corps de Garde. Absolutely shattered and ready for some relaxation. At the hotel there was a slight hick up with mix ups of rooms due to a system error. Grace and Sabine were absolute super stars and made up for the error a 1000 times. The hospitality, friendliness and customer service here is something which we have not experienced on such a scale in a very, very long time. If you plan to come here on a holiday, you will be welcomed like family. Thank you to the manager as well, he was also responsible for making our stay a really wonderful time. Peter and Andrea xx
