Café Strano

I always found Strano to be a really nice bar, especially because of the music and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, I was quite turned off after my last visit. We were dancing with three friends in an almost empty club — there were only three or four other people there — and were having a great time. The pop music was very danceable, so compliments to the DJ. Then a friend of ours was asked by the bouncer to remove her small Fili stin button for 'safety' reasons. There was absolutely no tension, argument, or disturbance; on the contrary, there was a nice, pleasant atmosphere among us, so that felt very uncomfortable and unnecessary to us. We left politely, but this experience left a nasty aftertaste. I understand that a gay bar is allowed to have house rules, but this came across to us as very selective and poorly explained. For a queer place, I found that particularly painful, because places like this should, to me, stand for safety, solidarity, and (also) space for minorities. It is a real shame, because I actually used to enjoy coming here.

The security guard Richard is very unpleasant. To all the guests. Even if you just want to get your coat, you get a sneer. You aren't even allowed to wait quietly. That man needs to retire. He goes around complaining that he arrived at midnight, that it was chaos, and that he had to sort it out. He is a security guard; that is his job. If you want people to stay, he needs to be nicer to guests.
