Hotel Victoria

A five-star return to Hotel Victoria, May 2006 Hotel Victoria in Stavanger once again delivered a stay worthy of 5/5. This was our third visit, and each time the hotel has combined personal service, elegant surroundings and one of the best hotel breakfasts we have experienced in Norway. The location is excellent, right by the harbourfront in central Stavanger, within easy walking distance of restaurants and sights. The hotel does not have its own parking, but there is a parking garage nearby; expect around NOK 350 per day. We stayed for one night in late May during a round trip in Ryfylke and had Classic Double Room 504 on the top floor. The room was spotless, comfortably sized and had a lovely view over Stavanger harbour, as shown in my room photos. The bed gave us a very good night’s sleep, and the bathroom worked well, with a strong shower and all the necessary toiletries. There was also a minibar. I did, however, miss having a proper coffee machine in the room. Guests choosing rooms facing the inner harbour should also be aware that there may be some noise on Friday or Saturday evenings, although it did not disturb us. Service is where Hotel Victoria really stands out. We have been warmly welcomed on every visit, and this stay was no exception. Requests regarding room placement and a bottle of wine in the room on arrival were handled quickly and professionally. Check-out was just as friendly, with genuine interest in whether everything had worked well during our stay. Breakfast was excellent, both in quality and atmosphere. The breakfast room is beautiful, as shown in my photos, and the selection of hot and cold dishes was very strong. A particularly attentive male member of staff followed up continuously throughout breakfast. Table service for coffee refills would have made it even better. What could be improved The hotel has only one lift, so there can be some waiting at busy times. A coffee machine in the room would also lift the experience further. Coffee refills at the breakfast table would add the final touch to an already excellent breakfast. My final verdict: I would gladly return and warmly recommend Hotel Victoria to anyone looking for a refined, personal and centrally located stay in Stavanger. If you go 1. Ask for a room on a higher floor with harbour views. 2. Budget for nearby parking, as the hotel has no private car park. 3. Allow time to enjoy breakfast in the historic breakfast room. From the moment you step into this hotel until departure, the staff goes the extra mile to keep you satisfied and smiling. The receptionist greeted us with a big smile and gave us the warmest welcome. The hotel is placed in the heart of the city near the sea and next to all the restaurants and shops. Our room (no 526) facing the harbour was spotlessly clean with a real sense of luxury (see my attached photos). The bed was big and comfortable. The breakfast buffet went beyond our expectations with a large selection of food and drink. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Seriously all members of personnel I met here were outstandingly kind and helpful. It made a huge impression on me! We have stayed several times and one time for almost a full month. What a great hotel and staff. Our friends actually stayed this past week based on our recommendation and also loved it.

The hotel’s location makes it a good base for exploring Stavanger. The room itself felt a bit outdated and showed clear signs of wear. During my stay, the showerhead suddenly fell out of its holder and hit my back while showering, which was not ideal. Service was acceptable overall, although housekeeping came quite late in the day. After returning from a hike around 4pm, I found that the room still hadn’t been cleaned and the towels hadn’t been replaced yet. Breakfast was okay, fairly standard and nothing memorable.

The location is central and good. Parking could be cheaper. Parking is in a parking garage next to the hotel Good food and good service

Thank you so much for a fantastic weekend with you. We have been looking forward to celebrating our wedding at this venerable and beautiful hotel in the heart of Stavanger for a long time. Booking and follow-up to put all the details in place have been painless. A special thank you to Rahel who has had steel control and made us feel safe. Everyone at the hotel gets top marks for good service and hospitality. A lovely three-course meal with locally sourced food was served in beautiful rooms with high ceilings and chandeliers that sparkled with the guests. The rooms have comfortable beds and otherwise the comfort that a hotel room should have. Thank you for a great experience.
