Valencia has a small but functional gay sauna scene. It is not on the scale of Madrid, which has one of the largest concentrations of gay saunas in Europe, but for a city of Valencia's size the provision is reasonable. The saunas are used primarily by local residents rather than being driven by tourist traffic, which gives them a different atmosphere from the facilities in Sitges or Mykonos.

What to expect

Valencia's gay saunas follow the standard format: steam rooms, dry sauna, showers, lockers, common areas, and private cabins available at extra cost. Facilities are clean and maintained. Entry prices are comparable to, or slightly below, Madrid and Barcelona equivalents. Most are open seven days a week with extended hours on weekends; mid-week visits tend to be quieter, weekend afternoons and evenings busier.

The clientele skews local and older on weekdays, with a broader mix at weekends when tourists and visitors from neighbouring towns may be present. The atmosphere is generally relaxed. Valencia's saunas do not tend to attract the large international crowd that flows through Madrid's Chueca saunas.

Location

The saunas are not all clustered in Ruzafa. Some are in the city centre or adjacent neighbourhoods rather than the main gay area. Check the specific address before visiting; you may need a taxi or a short metro ride if you are coming from Ruzafa at night.

Compared to Madrid

If sauna culture is a primary purpose of your visit to Spain, Madrid is the more obvious destination. The capital has a significantly larger number of well-established gay saunas with a wider range of facilities and a larger pool of visitors. Valencia's saunas serve the city well but do not compete with Madrid's volume or variety. That said, if you are in Valencia anyway, there is no reason to travel to Madrid specifically for a sauna.
