Hotel Palafox Zaragoza

The location is good, right in the city center and just a 9-minute walk from the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. I expected something different from a 5-star hotel. It's outdated, dark, the carpet is in dire need of replacement, and the air conditioning wasn't sufficient to cool the room; it was hot during the day. The reception staff were fantastic, very friendly, and they notified us as soon as the room was ready so we wouldn't have to wait. Parking is very difficult, and parking costs €25 per night.

This hotel is old, and the worst part is the reception. I requested a room with a double bed, and at check-in, they confirmed it was a double bed. Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the room and found two single beds. When I called reception, Ana, who handled my request, told me there was no availability. I didn't believe her since the hotel wasn't even full. I made the reservation through my company's travel agency, and they gave me the worst possible room! There were hardly any electrical outlets. I will never return to this hotel.

Good hotel, somewhat neglected. Pool: I noticed areas with poor maintenance; it's located on the rooftop. Rooms: The service lacks coordination; they should improve for a five-star hotel. There were two of us guests, and they only provided a complimentary bathrobe and slippers. They also left a small bottle of water and a glass as a courtesy, perfect for two people. Regarding the usual complimentary items in this type of hotel, such as cleaning supplies, I noticed two empty boxes, one of sponges and the other I can't remember. Oddly enough, we were relaxing in the room after the continental breakfast, around 10:00 AM, when suddenly the front door opened and closed. I went out to see what was happening, and it was the housekeeping staff. I think, as a matter of courtesy, they should check if the room was occupied beforehand (knock on the door). They violated our privacy. Since the stay was a gift from my daughters, they told the staff it was our anniversary, but I didn't see any special touch from management. Other, lower-category hotels have made some thoughtful gestures (even if they were small), which are appreciated. We felt like just another statistic; we weren't asking for anything extraordinary or out of the ordinary. I only recommend this hotel for its location, and nothing more. It's definitely not a five-star hotel, although the price is good.
