It could be a nice place, but as soon as we arrived, among people shouting, people throwing rubbish in the greenery and unsavory faces, we decided to leave
Could be a lovely place. Sadly it's a littered covered mess. With accompanying drug addicts. Shame.
Very nice during the day! Not as much during the night though.
Nice place to just chill......
Nice patch of grass to enjoy the weather
A lot of shady people there, doesn't felt good and secure.
Lovely area by the river but any playground for children, really? Such a great potential but not used. Catle ruins is a mess.
Good place to cool off. Place to eat your food. Place to chat.
After our “Aerospace Bristol” tour earlier on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025 - we took the bus line into Bristol’s City Centre and Cabot Shopping district. After having a late lunch and visit to a drug store, we walked here to “Castle Park” where the ruins of St. Peter’s Church serves as a reminder of the sacrifice of many who died while German Luftwaffe Bombers lay waste to this beautiful city. Bristol lost so much during the bombing during the Battle of Britain in the summer and fall 1940, and just coming here on the month of the 80th Anniversary of V-E Day made it a must visit personally. I stood there thinking, 85 years ago this was an active church and you would think this church would be a safe place during the bombings. Nope, to see the roof gone and completely exposed to nature just touched my soul. Besides the ruins and war memorial plaques that grace the front of St. Peter’s, The park area is on a site of a former castle, and as you walk up to the hill overlooking the city, you definitely notice the parts of the city rebuilt post WWII. My friend David and I looked at the city skyline like architects surveying, and we noticed very little pre-1940 buildings. Bristol was a city that was hit hard by Germany due to its aerospace and manufacturing industry. The various war memorials across the city serves as a reminder as well. As for the grounds itself, it’s a nice park, and worth an afternoon visit with a friend. FIVE CLAWS UP!!!!! Please take a look at the pics I took and please make time to visit when you do go to Bristol. Bear Hugs - Joe G. Bear L.A., CA USA
Located in the center of town, next to a canal, is a small and flirty park, with a length of half a kilometer and a width of just over 100 meters. In addition to lawns and groves, it has a medicinal plant garden, a monument to the Normandy landing, and remains of the tribute tower, castle walls and vaults, as well as St. John's Church. Peter. It has a path that runs through the most representative trees of the park, as well as informative panels that explain the history of this part of the city and that of the archaeological remains that are both on surface and underground. The entrance is free and has no fences or gates, so it is accessible 24 hours.
Quite nice, spacious park in the middle of Bristol. The abandoned church in the middle was interesting but I hope someone clear the indoor of the church from all the junk.. Add some lights or plants instead. Anyway nice view from the park to the river.
The park is lovely and the castle is also nice. It was nice walking by the river in the evening seeing the bars' lights.
This park is located between Temple Meads station and the city centre. Nice, quiet park, with a funny S-shaped bridge on the station side. A moment of rest among the hustle and bustle
Lovely park especially when the suns out, the park runs along part of the river so you can take a lovely stroll in the sun and enjoy the views ,
Great position near the centre, but a real shame about the speeding cyclist, taggers, drug use,. Scary after dark and the derelict buildings are an eyesore during the day. The park has great potential if there was more security...lighting, cctv, policing.
Such a cool place to sit and enjoy the atmosphere of so many enjoying their lunch breaks sat on the grass’s with the lovely church herb gardens to walk through
Castle Park is in Bristol City Centre and is a great place to visit for some wellbeing. It is a nice big green space next to the river so it is a perfect place to sit and admire the view. It's also a good place to chill out after walking round or shopping and have a sandwich is just to relax. Well worth checking out on your visit to the city.
I visited Castle Park on a weekday lunchtime and had a very pleasant walk around the park. The park was very busy with people enjoying the sunshine and partaking in various forms of outdoor (mainly exercise) classes and activities. Opened in 1978, the park occupies the site of what was once Bristol's main shopping district (destroyed during WW2 when 420 out of 500 buildings in the area were destroyed). There is very little left (above ground) of the Normal castle, most of the castle was demolished in 1656 . The park contains the ruins of St Peter's Church (destroyed during WW2) which parts of which dates back to 1106, but church is fenced off to visitors.
