Hôtel The Castle

Sadly not a great experience for us. When we arrived, around 2.00 pm, they were keen to tell us that Check-In was not before 3.00 pm. Made a point of telling us about 3 times. Room was ok, pretty small for an Executive room, but the walls were paper thin and we heard both neighbours using the bathroom and one neighbours TV until 1.00 am and then again at 6.55 am both mornings. Arriving at breakfast we were greeted by cards proudly boasting a Continental Breakfast, which was pretty sparse. We asked for an Americano, as we had seen a Barista machine behind the bar, but were told 'No, it's just Filter coffee.' 'Ok, so can we have hot milk?' 'No.' They clearly have no way of heating milk 😕 🤷 Then when eating her bowl of fruit my wife got a long black hair, not one of hers, stuck in her teeth! As Continental breakfasts go, it was pretty unappetising and pretty poor. Nobody bothered to tell us that there was a full cooked service the next morning, and as we had been so disappointed with breakfast, we didn't bother going the next morning, and were told, on checkout, that there was a full cooked service that morning.

Had Sunday lunch on Mother's Day and it was fabulous 👌 tasty gravy too. Best beef ever according to my partner (25years, that's saying something) The staff were friendly and efficient. Superb and will returning.

Hotel in great location. But service was absolutely horrendous. Barman slow and lady walking around could have help serve. Would not recommend staying there for that reason.

Very nice and amazing

We stayed in The Cottage which was fantastic. Great to have more space than just a hotel room, but then the added benefits of having a hotel. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would recommend and cannot wait to come again

I stayed in the Taupin suite recently and the room was terribly cold - I was presenting a two day conference and was awoken by the freezing room at 4am. I contacted reception at the time and apparently the boiler had tripped, unfortunately it took so long to heat up the room when this was rectified that I couldn't get back to sleep. When asked by reception in the morning how it went I explained I couldn't get back to sleep and they responded "you should have phoned me"(?). For breakfast I was told to "sit anywhere", when the same lady from reception said "you sat in the wrong place but don't worry". There was also an error with the booking agent for my room and again I was made to feel this was my fault despite not being contacted - in general, continual counterfactual scolding and a cold room did not make for a good stay. Breakfast was anaemic and the road noise was far from ideal.

Lovely place. Peaceful, clean and recently decorated room, friendly and accommodating staff, cooked breakfast served to order (no 3-hour old scrambled egg here!). Great location though getting up that hill with a case was a challenge (I'm sure there are taxis and buses, I'm just pig-headed...)

Earlier in the week we was kindly invited to support The Castle Hotel and Reform Restaurant with a pal of mine being head chef Lewis Lawson I couldn’t resist this opportunity to go and show my support. This was not a free offer I like to pay my way and support local businesses. It was lovely to actually meet Sarah the owner m, being big fans of this hotel , restaurant we have always missed each other on previous visits. Upon arrival Charlotte Stillyards greeted us and we opted sit in bar area for pre meal drinks, we love this place the staff are just lovely and the whole place has a great ambiance. We was soon shown to our table for the night to begin. We had already pre ordered off the menu , I have attached the menu in the pics. Our starters soon arrived and I could not wait to try the haddock mosaic starter with caper & kombu sauce , pea puree. This dish was out of my comfort zone and I am so pleased I chose it , I like push boundaries with trying all different dishes on menus rather than sticking to what I know. This dish was constructed perfectly with the haddock holding firm but melt in mouth and you could taste the freshness of it, the sauce balanced the dish perfectly it really did , with neither ingredients overpowering each other ,,, perfectly executed dish. Fran Lee chose the soup which was the roasted butternut squash soup with toasted pumpkin seeds and fresh forcaccia bread. The soup was thick and full of flavour and perfectly balanced as what I would say a good bowl of warning soup, Witt the fresh forcaccia Brad bring so fresh and just perfect to mop up that bowl clean. Our dishes was soon cleared svd after a short while …. Which by the way I like a pause between courses I don’t pay for my food to be slung at me in n out quickly like some places do … those places I never return too. For the mains I chose the locally sourced venison loin, served with venison and red wine sausage , truffle mash , beetroot gel, charred baby leeks with red wine jus. This dish was fine dining at its best , outstanding dish . Lewis you smashed it. I had a chat with Lewis before the night and he had showed me he had purchased a full deer from doddington in Lincoln , and he butchered the full carcass himself ,, propper skills that is skinning and butchering in house. You find lots of places are doing this more now. The venison was melt in mouth tender , the venison red wine sausage was an explosion on my taste buds . This was a taste sensation in its own rifhts, the mash charred leeks and jus abd beetroot gel perfectly balanced the plate of fine ingredients,, again this was presented perfectly and well constructed . Fran chose the roast pumpkin wellington, maple spiced parsnip , pomme puree with a vegan Jus. This looked absolutely superb dish with the wellington encased in a perfectly latted pastry and the pumpkin wellington having depth of flavour with a spinach layer , Perfect plate of food , at this point we had soon realised we had bigger eyes than our stomachs as both courses was big plates of food svd Ed had ordered desserts . Perfectly timed pause before desserts was presented to us , I went for the honeycomb cheesecake with white chocolate ice cream and chocolate shards with Fran choosing the Mille fois , creme oat, berry compote with fresh strawberries and pistachio ice cream. Both these puddings rounded off a perfect night of food ,,, we was unable to finish both of these as we was literally stuffed to the brim . The front of house staff smashed it and Lewis and his kitchen staff absolutely smashed every dish , we executed night. The castle hotel reform restaurant is definitely making its mark in fine dining scene in Lincoln, my only bit of advice going forward is to swap the vegetarian options monthly maybe or have a special dish , the chain if tbought behind this is for example Fran had already had the vegetarian options so that will rule us out going back for a while as she’s had the options in the menu . Great hotel. Location is fantastic. Staff were brilliant and so helpful. The breakfasts far exceeded our expectations. Nice little bar area too.

Wallpaper coming off the walls, shower leaked onto the flooring, lots of cobwebs, pillows were awful, guttering needs sorting outside too. Really nice place situation, staff are clearly trying their best, but a lot of TLC needs to be done on rooms. Breakfast was ok. Service was friendly and nice so can’t fault the staff.
